    NY police vehicle impersonation

I was wondering what you are and aren't allowed to have on a car. Such as a retired police car. I have read the penal codes and such but I want an answer from the leos. What is your take on this subject? What if they aren't trying to impersonate a cop and just bought it that way and don't bother taking it off?

Please share any stories you have pertaining to this subject. Greatly appreciated

My question would be, why? Why would you even buy a car if you had to come to a police forum and ask if it's legal to drive?

As the old saying goes, "If you have to ask if it's a good idea, it probably isn't."

why you ask? because I am seeking knowledge and I would of thought people here would know a thing or two about it, first hand, and not give me asinine feedback...
i want to be sure, i want opinions from other people
and i also did not ask if it was a good idea or not, i asked what is legal and what isn't....

In my state, if you drive such a car and even *one* person reacts in the belief you are a police officer, you are guilty of impersonation regardless of your intent.

Something to think about while you are snarky about us trying to help keep you out of trouble.

You should have been looking up VEHICLE code sections. Go back and re-research.

Follow the NYS Penal law as advised.....which states the use of police logos is illegal and the possession of red lights are illegal.

Please don't ask for somebody's take and then cry like a baby, complain or become hostile. Your stay here will be very short with that attitude.

You asked your question...it got answered. Enough said.
-In God we trust. All others, put your hands on the car and don't move.
