Well, I understand that you have to be able to break your window in an emergency situation but don't you think at least your car doors should be bulleproof?

I have driven a lot of armored cars/SUVs. In most cases, they are very cumbersome, to say the least. With armor, there are a lot of other concerns (additional training of personnel, special required maintenance, etc.).
It's neither necessary, nor practical.

Driving an armored car would pretty much take the fun out of high speed pursuits.
One Big Ass Mistake America
If I am not mistaken, all the NYSP vehicles will be armored.
No, I do not think it is necessary.
Ford offers/offered a ballistic package for the doors of CVPI's, if memory serves, it is quite expensive and doesn't offer anymore protection than a good level III vest. I don't think very may departments opted to spend the extra money for a marginally effective system.
Here's my idea... you take a ballistic blanket, which can actrually be quite effective, and you make a Snuggie with it, complete with arm-holes and everything.
I thing the ballistic Snuggie could be the solution.

So what are you going to do if there is trouble? Just hide in your vehicle. Hope you like going slow.
Live Life; Don't let life live you.
FYI, I have been driven some VERY fast and responsive armored vehicles... everything from a B6 armored Grand Cherokees and Suburbans to B7 armored Excursions. They were all pretty good, though the Excursions did not like to stop. Some of our old armored stuff was really bad, but the new stuff is designed to be armored from the ground up... not some standard vehicle with armored slapped in it.
