    Future Police Cars

I was wondering what everyone is planning as using as police vehicles in a few years since Ford is discontinuing the CVPI and it looks like GM and Chrysler might go out of the picture.

I know about Carbon Motors and the E7, but I'm not sure if that is a solution for every department, assuming it gets beyond the concept car phase.

Does anyone know about any plans for a "foreign" manufactuer to step up and offer a police or fleet package?

I thought the Crown Vic was going to be continued as a "Fleet Vechile" only. They'd still be available to rental, taxi and police agencies, just not the general public. I may be wrong though.

Ditto Gruss that's what I heard as well. Not that it matters for my agency, we've switched over to all V6 Chargers.

What I'd be planning is a total different story than what my agency is "planning".

well i know, the nypd, are trying out 50 nissan hybrid altima police cars, top speed 113mph. Which i personally, think is ridculous that the city are thinking of converting to hybrids. Bloomberg is for this and proposed this idea(go figure).
    Thanks-

As long as I don't get forced to drive a FWD I don't particulary care what the make/model is. Plus we don't really have a lot of pursuits here so a V6 is alright as well. If someone is going over 90mph, in the city, their job is probably going to disappear.

Use honda accord, toyota camry or hyundai sonata. at least those are assembled in usa these days and they are durable and reliable

all the crown victoria, impala and charger are made in canada and they are taking our jobs away and these cars are ugly and crap.

    Future Police Cars

The Future of Police Cars is looking bright. Carbon Motors E7, Chevrolet Caprice PPV and Ford will all be offered as Police only, specially designed with input from Police Officers/Depts. Below is some info on the Chev and Ford.

GM will allow U.S. police departments to order a police-spec Chevrolet Caprice beginning next year, with the first cruisers hitting the road in 2011. The Caprice is built on the Holden platform used for the G8 and which also underpins the new Camaro. Holden calls the car Statesman in Australia, while it is rebadged as a Chevy Caprice for sale in the Middle East.

At 118.5 inches, the Caprice rides on the longest wheelbase of any car using GM’s global rear-drive platform; the G8 was nearly four inches shorter between its wheels. Most of that room is accounted for in the larger back seat—GM claims a four-inch advantage in rear legroom over the Ford Crown Victoria. The Caprice PPV (for Police Patrol Vehicle) will do battle with the ubiquitous Crown Vic as well as the Dodge Charger. The front-seat design is police-specific, able to accommodate officers wearing utility belts for long drives. Departments can also opt for a rear-curtain-airbag delete to allow for a full-width rear partition, making the police safer and ignoring the extra harm that may befall perps in the back after a rollover or side-impact collision.

Police-package Caprices will be motivated by either a V-6 or V-8. A 355-hp, 6.0-liter V-8 will be launched first, followed by a 3.6-liter V-6 the following year. All cars will get police-duty upgrades, including a high-output alternator; auxiliary coolers for engine oil, transmission fluid, and power-steering fluid; 18-inch steel wheels; four-wheel disc brakes with beefier brake pads; and police-calibrated stability control. A large touch-screen interface for primary vehicle controls is integrated into the center console, as well. Two batteries are mounted in the trunk, one for the engine and the other for accessories like computers, lights, and radar guns.

There are no plans to offer a civilian version of the Caprice PPV. - Info From Car and Driver-

Being the nation's largest provider of police and municipal vehicles with around 45,000 police cars sales every year, Ford wasn't about to let General Motors and its new 2011 Chevy Caprice patrol vehicle to get a piece of the pie without a fight. The Blue Oval company announced that it will introduce an all-new, purpose built Police Interceptor specially designed and engineered to replace the current Ford Crown Victoria law enforcement vehicle lineup from 2011.

The Detroit automaker said that the new Police Interceptor is being developed in conjunction with Ford's Police Advisory Board, which provided input during the past 14 months on key vehicle attributes, such as safety, performance, durability, driver convenience and comfort.

"We have heard the repeated requests from the law enforcement community to continue uninterrupted support of the law enforcement community," said Mark Fields, Ford's president of The Americas. "Ford is answering the call with the new Police Interceptor – engineered and built in America."

Ford said that it plans to reveal the new Interceptor and provide full vehicle specifications sometime during the first quarter of 2010. -Info from Carscoop-

The GM-Holden car they're trying to sell to you blokes would be bloody great to have here but I don't think it's on offer for us.

Here's a link to one of many stories about the Holden Caprice-based PPV with some pics . . . .

We use a slightly smaller version, same as the G8 being sold in the US. With the new SIDI Technology so the V8 drops to 4 cyl to conserve fuel.

. . . .and this is what we're getting as our next unmarked car . .

I was going to say explcdt, I don't know where you are getting your information from. GM is coming out with the Caprice, Chrysler is still going to have their Chargers. As far as Ford, I heard that 2011 will be the last model year for the Interceptor (crown vic) and that they are working on a new design that will be a service vehicle only (not sold to the general public).
Excuse me Officer, I have a stupid Question. "No problem, I've got a stupid answer for you!"

I heard they were supposed to discontinue cvpi's this year (2011) but then I did some research and found this website. I don't have enough posts so I can't post url's but just go on google and type in "government vehicles ford motor company" and its the 3rd webpage then on the left click "police vehicles" and the first vehicle on the top left should be a 2011 cvpi.

The Taurus Interceptor will be replacing the CVPI in 2012
