    I would say check out a couple of local CF gyms. I've gone to a few different affilates and have been suprised by the difference in each gym.

    The CF gym I am a member of, we have a schedule 10 minute warm-up, WOD and then a skills development. Which at the very minimum we are getting 2 good workouts and that's only if the owner/trainer takes it easy on us for a warm-up (which is rare). This takes an hour, ocassionally we run a few minutes over.

    Check out Rouge Fitness for the weights. There are a few other places, several which our owner has purchased from, but the favored plates are those from Rogue.

    I know this is an older thread, but I thought it would be a waste to start a new one for the same topic.

    I took advantage of a local gym that gives you a free intro to crossfit class on Saturdays. I liked it...not sure if my body will ever be able to stretch into all those positions though

    Positions? Are you talking about yoga or something? There are no "positions" in crossfit... pretty basic olympic lifting and some military gorilla-drills, for the most part.

    Actually I was referring to the pre-workout stretching They made us do front and back iron crosses (I think that is the correct name for it). But unlike the picture they expected us to be able to raise our feet to our legs. After that it was fairly straight forward.

    Welcome to the addiction...

    I'm stuck down in the southern region of Georgia with a zip code in Hell... But at least I have CF trailers and a track that is lined with pull-up bars and some outdoor weights. In that aspect, there are 2 fellow CF'ers in my "class" and we have taken a 4th under our wings teaching her the ways...

    Figured that I would give it a shot. Been hearing some good things about it. Going to the gym is rather pricey, but being so new to it I want to learn the basics correctly.

    It's very pricey!! But once you get a good hang of the fundamentals... I'd say give it about 6 months, then you can start looking for where you can do CF and not get yelled at for making a little extra noise. I'm not even going to say looked at funny, because anywhere but a CF gym everyone will look at you in one odd manor or another.

    I was in a CF gym about a year and a half; once I get back from FLETC, more than likely I'll be looking for a CF friendly gym or just use the one at work.

    Yeah, I am with Blue on this. You see, I started crossfit in a non-crossfit gym. I had crazy looks nearly every time I did it. More often than not, people would come up and ask me WTF I was doing. They usually gave me a pretty wide birth, though... so I was usually able to get my wod in without much interference.

    Yea, you started in a non-CF gym and one that if I remember correctly turned out to be anti-CF and wasn't someone kicked out of that gym for doing CF?

    No worries...this is a crossfit specific gym My goal is to learn the fundamentals and then transition to doing it at home. What would you recommend as far as a routine...go to the gym everyday, every other day, m/w/f or does it just depend on each individual?
