Is there anything out there beside the PowerBlock or Selecttech adjustable dumbbells?
Within the next month I'm going to purchase a set and don't want to miss out on the next exercise equipment "Furby."

Of every one hundred men, ten should not even be here. Eighty are nothing but targets. Nine are real fighters, and we are lucky to have them, for they make the battle. Ah, but the One... One of them is a Warrior... He will bring the others back.

I don't really care for them. If you lift with any substantial weight, they get very bulky very quickly.

Ronnie Coleman does not use drugs.
Then again.....
They're for here at the house, so I probably wouldn't go much over 90 lbs. 120 would be pushing it, working out alone.
I understand the "bulkiness" aspect. There's a photo of the PowerBlock weight in comparison to Selecttech and some other kind which showed the overall lenth.
I'm looking for ease of in-home use without the cost of buying and having individual dumbbells all over the place.

What are the DB weight ranges? Do they have a select-a-weight DB that stops at like, 60? Buy on set of those and one pair of real DB's that weigh 100lbs.
Different sets with different ranges. The "Sport 5.5" goes from 2.5 to 55 pounds per hand in 2.5 lb increments.

55 should cover pretty much everything, except chest, back, and shoulder press, right? Buy those and a set of 90's. Then you can sh press, b press, and row the 90's without having a 'bulky' DB.
I love my powerblocks. Never had a problem with them other than being a little "rattly".
I just make sure to always have the adjuster facing down so I never have to fear it coming off mid lift. I like that they are expandable so you can get the smaller set and then add on later.
Coolio.
adamsclarke - Which set do you have?

I have the sport 5.0. I bought them local because shipping really kills any deals you can find. I use them often, but I get bored too quickly to work out only with DBs. They are much easier to use that the twist lock style and I feel safer with them since they are easy to adjust and know they are not shifting on you.
Thanks. Once I get my skrilla, I'll start looking on Craigslist.

I don't know enough about dumbbells since I just do pushups and standard things till I drop. But I think dumbbells are just mainly used for the arm....if you really want to focus on the arm just get a chinup bar. You can start trying to go at 1 handed chinups which really work your arms. A nice way to get to those is by holding the bar with 1 hand, and having the other hand hold the forearm that is holding the bar. As you get stronger you can move that other hand lower down the arm so you rely on it less and less.
You probably knew this already. but now i feel smart![]()

Not even remotely so. Dumbbells can be used for all bodyparts. Maybe you wanna try your GoogleFu with "dumbbell exercises" and see what pops up.

Glad I could help take you down a peg or two.![]()
