    A little overweight..

I was wondering what is a good or ideal diet plan. I've tried south beach, Slimfast, lemonade diet, and etc. None of these seemed to work even though I stuck to them and the doctors say I need to lose a good 35 pounds, but they don't give me any suggestions except for the ones above. So I was wondering what has worked for you in the past? Any suggestions to lose these pounds?

I have lost 35 pounds in a little over six months by eating more often, six small meals a day, and excercising more, walking.

I seem to be stuck at 207 though. I'm starting to get frustrated.

Like everyone said, eat less (and better) and exercise more. The most helpful thing for me was counting calories/keeping a food diary. You'd be amazed at how much you eat without thinking.

There are free websites that will keep track of what you eat, tell you the nutritional info, and keep a running total of what you've consumed throughout the day in terms of calories, fat, protein, etc. I've been using a site called "The Daily Plate" (can't post a link until 15 posts). It will even give you a rough, daily calorie target based on your weight, gender (?), activity level and how much weight you're looking to lose a week, up to 2 lbs.

I would second the calorie counting. If you're a male around 6ft you can expect to burn anywhere from 2000 to 2300 calories a day. There is no shortage of ways to help you track this. If you really want to lose you need to stay at 1800 or a little less. Consistent cardio is important too.

I have been keeping to 3 meals a day at 600 or less calories per meal, In addition to a high cardio workout 3 times a week. With this I dropped from 230 to 200 in about 4 months.

best of luck. Its hard but its worth it.

At three 3 times a week...How long should the high cardio be?

What kind of heartrate should we maintain during cardio?

I ought to get back into this too.

I suggest the books called "Abs Diet" I've read the book and I learned alot about exercise and nutrition. It's worth the purchase, because i can pretty much gaurantee (if you use the book correctly) you will lose weight and gain muscle. Hope this helps.

Body for Life is a great diet, too. Even if you don't excersize like you're supposed to.

A fist size of lean protein with a fist size of complex carbs at each meal, six times a day. With 8 oucnes of water. Vegetables at the dinner meal. Every seventh day you can have "a day off" and eat what you want. I lost 50 lbs on this diet in six months.

I have read a lot of diet and exercise books and this is by far the easiest one to follow. It is the official diet of Men's Health magazine and they have a female version as well. The best part about this plan is you can still eat a lot as long as it is good food.

First off, I hate the term "diet." To me, that screams temporary. Do you want to loose weight on a temporary basis? I doubt it. You need to completely change your eating habits and probably your lifestyle as well. Good carbs, less sugars (drop the fast food and sodas!!), more fruits and veggies... Cook your own food, don't rely on some box to provide everything you need to be healthy. Get out and exercise... and I don't mean go walk a mile or two 3 times a week, that wont do sh!t despite what soccer stay at home mommy thinks.

(My little rant and not directed at OP.)
Our society is fat because they failed to pay attention in 'health' class about good eating habits and healthy living, because the parents of this generation relied on McDonald's and Burger King to feed their kids. Wrong answer. Now we have a fat nasty obese society who is looking to Weight Watchers and Jenny Craig to fix all their problems. Pathetic.

The owner of the gym I go to has a t-shirt that says, "Blame your parents for your weakness." Of course there is also "Being weak is a choice," and "God hates the weak, that's why there is evolution." Works for me.

I'd aim for some type of cardio every day, if possible. If just starting try to get at least 20 mins - 30-40 is better, at a HR that's about 60-70% predicted HRmax (220 minus ur age). Higher HR's you wont be able to sustain for that long, and ou need the length of time so you can tap into fat stores. Break up the long monotinous work-outs with some interval trainin every few days. Be that slow runs/fast walks:fast runs/sprints at a work:rest ratio of 1:3 to start, moving ever closer to 1:1 as you get fit. Or break it up with running/cycling intervals. Just keep the HR up.

Eat less calories, eat more, smaller meals so you feel fuller more often and your metabolism is always running, and eat fiber to keep the system moving.
