And I went to college too. I have an MS in Exercise Phys, took a similar EKG interp course in grad school, have my CSCS and CPT, worked as a strength coach at two D1 colleges and as a PT before I was the police. My thesis was entitled "A Comparison of the VO2max, Maximum Heart Rate, Maximum Respiratory Exchange Ratio, and Maximum Blood Lactate Level Elicited by an Incremental Cycle Ergomerter Test Versus an Incremental Slideboard Exercise Test", in which I ran the same direct O2 collection and heart rate monitoring as you stated, as well as blood sample collection via lancet. I ran the testing on 11 subjects, and the results I presented at the ACSM National Convention. So I'm not just some cop who's telling you about something I read in last month's Flex.
there's another point, Flex Mag et. al. mostly post workouts from bodybuilders...why would you want to take advice from someone who probbably hasn't the foggiest how to lift weights without turning their own body into a human chemistry set...and BELEIVE ME a body at 6000% testosterone (i don't know what the actual level is for a steroids user?) acts WAYY different than yours will under similar stress...
unfortunately off the street, but working on a 2-Year CJ Degree (40% Finished).
Yea though I walk through the valley of no radio reception, with backup in excess of 40 miles away I shall fear no evil, for I am a warrior, for whom the ranchers have an affinity, and they can take the head off a gopher at 200 yards.
