What do you think about protein shakes?

So I lost 45 pounds the "old fashioned" way but eating better and excercize. I also did a proten(whey shake) in the morning. I really dont mind doing that as it does keep me pretty full.

What do you guys think. Do you mix it up with a regular breakfast...or do you find that it does help you lose some weight? Any good recipes to share?

    I usually do

8 ounces of Fat Free milk
1 cup of bluebterries(or other type of berry)
    1 tablespoon on peanut butter
    2 scoops of whey protein
    1 tablespoon of flax seeds.

It kind of tastes like a PBJ sandwhich and I got the recipe from Mens health.

But I am feeling that I am now at a standstill or I have plateaued.

What do you guys do for breakfasts?

My breakfast is a beta- blocker followed by Niacin and fish oil capsules. I then have Crestor and Nexium along with high fiber cereal.

    Getting old sucks. :(

BTW: Protein shakes taste like chocolate-flavored potting soil.
Don't try and outweird me, I find weirder things than you in my breakfast burrito.

Almost every day I have the same thing for breakfast. It's a couble scoop of protein powder (choclate), a huge scoop of peanut butter, ice chips and skim milk... well blended.

The peanut butter really makes it last longer for me... otherwise, I am hungry in a couple hours.

I mix a couple of scoops of chocolate protein powder in about twenty ounces of Silk (soy) milk that I put in a plastic jug with some ice cubes to keep it cold.

Then, I drink it on the way home from the gym. :D

Then I drink some pomegranate juice (about 8 ounces) when I get home. That's breakfast. :D

What I try to do is eat oatmeal every morning. I know it sounds gross and it does get very old. But it is very good for you. As for protien shakes, I agree that every should be drinking protien shakes. I have to admit, they are expensive. This is just what I preferr to do in the morning. Hope this helps.

I do a replacement meal shake in the morning and I have protein shakes before and after workouts and before going to bed. I don't buy into the 1 gram per pound of bodyweight marketing but I do believe hard training needs some protein (at least 20 grms) every 2-4 hours. I'm on a diet to get into a lower weight class in BJJ and so far I've gone from 252 to 243 and am probably taking about 180-200 grams a day and that seems to be at the point of diminishing returns and wasting money.
    I argue on the internet.

I actually wanted to start doing protein shakes, how much protein should I take per day? My current weight is 120, and I'm quite active.
I appreciate any info any of you may have in educating me on the best protein mix-shank you! :D

Mine is 10oz fat free milk with 2 scoups of Muscle Milk (currently using the chocolate flavor); if I'm not in a rush to run out the door for work I'll toss it in the blender with a bananna and a couple of ice cups.

At 120lbs you probably get enough protein in your diet. I would just do the one serving before and after workout plan.
    I argue on the internet.

I eat wheaties and a cup of milk everyday for breakfast.

    Wheaties FTW!!!

Note---I drink protien shakes primarily AFTER a heavy duty workout. Helps me build up for the next day and I don't get sore either.

Thank you, I really appreciate the advice.

Can you suggest the best product out there. I don't care about the cost, I just want the best.

    Hugs.

For the best and cheapest ON 10lb bag with shipping from BB.com or Bulkbutrition comes out to about 45-55cents a serving and the protein is very good if not the best premixed formulas.

www.trueprotein.com has an awesome deal for the bad economy but you have to know exactly what you want and you would probably want to buy some flavoring packets as these deals are for unflavored bulk buys.
