Nothing compares, assuming you don't have a problem putting 100% into a very intense regiment. It is no good if you do it half-a$$ed.

Crossfit. Will be mixing in more running when the temps stop being -20. I refuse to run on a treadmil.

I'm 51. I go to the gym five days a week, start out by lifting weights (because I like that) for about an hour, and then I get on an elliptical trainer for 30-40 minutes. I alternate different muscles different days, and if they weather is nice I will sometimes go on a bike ride instead.
It doesn't make me Arnold Schwarzenegger, but it makes me feel good. :D
