My advice would be to go learn the basics, and then workout on your own and only go to the affiliate for refreshers. Its amazing how much you can learn in one session with a coach teaching you. Good form is an amazing thing when it comes to results.![]()
It's also amazing how sloppy one's form can get when fatigued... and how easily it can go unnoticed by the person doing it... another amazing thing is how wuickly bad habits form.
You would be better served going with a buddy. You guys can keep each other honest and a great deal of motivation in crossfit comes from the competition.Short of going with a buddy, finding someone in a globogym who enjoys crossfit should not be too difficult... assuming the globogym permits crossfit exercises.
I know, when I started crossfitting, there were only 2-3 of us in my gym who did it. Now, there are about 10 or so of us doing crossfitt (or crossfit-like) routines. Even one of the trainers started using some of our exercises.... I haveeven seen him trying to get people to do turkish get-ups.![]()

Well I gave in and started P90X this week. I have to say that I am definitely feeling it so far. I did the plyometrics workout yesterday and haven't been so sore since triple sessions in college.
Just in case anybody else was thinking about purchasing this program I am giving it a thumbs up at this point. And if you think that you are already in good shape and this won't do much for you, I am in decent shape as well. I can rip out about 70-75 pushups, 80 situps, and this program is still kicking my ***. It is just a great change of pace for anybody who has been hitting the gym with weights for 4-5 days a week and running for another 3-4 days a week. You know who you are if you have been in the same routine for years without changing!
Localtin,
How did you do? I just finished my first round of P90X last weekend and am impressed with the results. I lost 12 pounds, 7% body fat, and 3.5 inches off my waist. Though there isn't any running incorporated into the program, I went for a 3 mile run a couple of weeks ago and was impressed to find that I could run the entire time, and ran it in 26 minutes...not bad considering I could barely run 2 miles without feeling like I was going to die before starting P90X.
I definitely don't want to get into the Crossfit vs. P90X debate (I think they both look like good programs for GPP). I haven't tried Crossfit because I don't have regular access to the types of weights needed for their routines, but I can definitely see the merits of the program. The equipment I used for P90X fit easily in a milk crate in my living room, so it just worked out better for me. Anyhow, I was just seeing if you had success with P90X.

Just finished Week 1 of P90X - I'm hooked. Was lucky enough to find a heavy duty pullup/dip apparatus on Craigslist at a great price. I'm positive that the hard work will yield incredible results.

Good job, Oscarsjava! The first week was killer (especially since I was sore for a few days after Plyometrics). I went from being able to do 7 "strict" pullups on Day 1 to 12 on Day 90, so you'll definitely put in some time on that pull-up station! My (unsolicited) advice to you is to really stick with the Nutrition Plan that came with the program. I strongly believe that what I ate (and more importantly, what I didn't eat) had much more impact on my results than just doing a lot of pushups.
Best of luck to you, and "keep pushing play".

I am going to agree with everyone else P90x really works alot of NFL players do use this program because my friend is the ball boy for the Philadelphia Eagles and he tells me a majority of the players use this to keep in shape. If it works for a NFL player it can work for a Police Officer. :D
PS you can buy and pull up rack online where you can simply use your door frame.
Yes the programs works, and works well. If you stick to the diet and have the dedication and motivation to stick with the daily workouts and the diet you WILL see results. I am only on day 18 myself. I can say that I lost 13 pounds my first week. I am loving the program and once you get into the P90X community the support is oustanding. I have a daily video blog that I keep. I do daily video postings about that days workout, and then monthly progress photo updates. I will list the address here at the end. Also all you need for this workout is either bands or dumbbells, a pull-up bar (which is cheap and can be mounted on a door frame and taken right off), a workout mat, and a chair. Also a towel and water bottle because you will sweat! Take a look at my videos to see my progress. Also I live near Morgantown WV and I have a local police officer who lives in my appartments. He informed me (after finding out that I was doing P90x) that his department is using it to get the guys into shape! Thanks and happy P90X'ing...BRING IT!!

There is a reason why you must have a certain post-count to post links. We don't particularly care for people coming on here and posting links and then never being seen again. If you wish to be a participating member of this community, then give it some time. If you are doing nothing more than a drive-by, you are hardly welcome here.
...I am thinking you fall more into the later category than the former. After all, was your first post an intro in the Rap Sheets section? No. Is this how you interact with people or do you introduce yourself first?
Also, I think P90x is great if you have a couple hours to kill everyday and want to look good. I think there are more effective avenues to entertain if I were looking to get a bunch of military, LE, firemen or any other first responders into shape with functional strength. I'm not a Marine (took the Army route), but know they don't fool around.... and THEY know what to use for effective, real world fitness that they can apply when it counts.

So Switch what would you say is an effective program that will give you fuctional strength and when we don't have two hours to kill. ;)

I also have been doing the p90x. 3rd week now. It's been kicking my *** a bit. I consider myself in pretty good shape, but it's a workout lol. If you can't handle to p90x, then they have just the power 90. It's cheaper and a good start. I'm just doing the p90x to get cut. I still keep a cardio routine 3x a week.

P90X is awesome!! You just have to make sure you dedicate yourself to the workout plan and the nutrition plan. I seen it on an infomercial too, and I've done plyometrics workouts and know those can be very rough and very beneficial at the same time. So I ordered it, and so far so good. I LOVE IT!!!You can also find decently priced pull up bars on sportsauthority.com that you can remove from the wall and that don't require you to drill any holes or anything like that. They had a special one on there for P90X that was going for like 39.99 or something like that. Your best deals to find that equipment is online. overstock.com also has very decent prices on equipment. I'd say to give it a try, it won't bulk you up but it will cut weight and tone you up. Good luck!
