There are no Crossfit gyms near me, with the closest ones being about an hour east and an hour west of me.

I am heading to Lexington, KY today to get my cert. You do not need any time in preparation for the cert. They just teach you the form and concepts of crossfit. I was just lucky enough to get the G to pay for it, as it's pretty pricey.

My globo gym is pretty tolerant of crossfit (tolerant or afraid of my buddy and me... who know). I am tired of listening to Jack FM (when I am not wearing my earphones) and not having bumper plates, though. I know a guy interested in starting a gym and he jsut got his affiliation OKed by crossfit.com. I think I will be helping him get something started up. While I can't have a paying job, I can volunteer my time, helping a buddy. Hanging out with crossfitters and recruiting more to the cause will be fun enough.

I've been really interested in trying crossfit and there is a crossfit gym near me but you're right.....its is really pricey. But what the hell I'll probably do it anyway. ;)

I hate not having the bumper plates more than anything.

One of the guys at the desk prints out the WOD and posts it on a bulletin board for everyone to read as the enter, but very few of us partake in crossfit.

There was a guy watching me do Elizabeth (minds out of the gutter) and he is just sitting there on some machine just watching. I am in the meantime coughing up a lung and I keep looking up at his blank stare. I so badly wanted to ask him is he getting a good work out watching me

First of all, Crossfit Lexington is AMAZING! The place is huge... and beautiful! While most crossfit gyms are a bit rustic, this place is luxurious. They must have an amazing client base. While huge, they still seem very down to earth, running it like everyone is friends. The owner was out busting everyone's chops through the routines.

Now, that is the good stuff. Having done Fran only a few days ago with my whole week attacking my legs (lots of squats and box jumps), they destroyed my legs with a ton of squats, or as the instructor called it, "a treat". You would never know it, but doing bottom-to-bottom squats (start and finish at the bottom and rest in the bottom) SUCKS... now do Tabata bottom-to-bottom squats!!!! It is a true hell doing 8 sets of 20 sec of work with 10 second off, resting in the down position.

Then came FRAN at the end of the day! Straight up evil people! It was the first time in a long time that I could not do the first 21 thrusters in one set. My leg seized up jumping to to the pull-up bar... on the first set! The sets of 15 and 9 were no more pleasant! LOL I finished in 7:02... more than 2 min slower than 3 days ago. :(

At first I wasn't so sure I wanted to shell out that kind of money for a gym either. Not when I as paying a 5th for my globo gym membership... but after just one day at the Crossfit gym, I'd have one hell of a hard time going back to the other gym. :D

Well, they did a good job of whipping our butts! Fran yesterday and Fight Gone Bad today were the WODs of choice. We also had tabata bottom-to-bottom squats yesterday and 30 medicine ball squat clean and jerks by the numbers (holding certain positions, waiting for the 60 person class to get in the given position).

I also did some GHD sit-ups and back extensions on a real GHD bench.

I was also hoping to work on kipping muscle-ups on rings, as I have had some real difficulty with themthe one other time I was able to get rings set up to do them. Amazingly, I found I could knock out strict, deadhang muscle-ups without problems. I did 5-6 in row! I may even have a vid of a couple.

There is a 4 week, five day/wk bootcamp offered here. Is this at an introductory level or an advanced one? Just wondering if it's too intensive for beginners.

I am admitting to being interested... LOL There are a few crossfit gyms near here. One is in the town I want to move to... I think I will go there when I finally get myself moved. One thing at a time... I have to say I am very interested... Especially when a certain person was just about giddy when they were coming back from the gym... and she knows who she is...:D

    Get that vid up!

Are the GHD sit-ups much different/difficult?

    Gonna try those bottom-to-bottom squats.

Bluelightzgrl: There is a crossfit gym 70 miles for me and they charge almost twice my globo gym, but I am paying a family membership and I don't want to drive 140 miles for a workout.

Look them up! They completely remove hip-flexors from the move. They are very VIOLENT and INTENSE. The best, Reader's Digest version of them that I can muster begins with you do them with a slight bend in the knee and the legs parallel to the ground. You hips are extended over the edge of the GHD bench. You then hang backwards off the bench, maintaining the s-curve in your spine. Finally, locking the knee and whipping your body to an "up"position, sitting vertical. There are youtubes of it, I believe.

Some cases of rhabdo have been reported from those rushing into the exercise without a proper foundation. More often, however, people have been bed-ridden for a few days with an inability to move from the excruciating pain of tearing their abs to shredds.

The vid will come tomorrow. I am beat and i just got home from the 5 hour drive.

I refuse to feel sorry for you because you have personal "issues" with the kipping muscle-ups on rings!! That has got to be one of the harder exercises and you want sympathy... HAHAHA!! Nice try Switch. :p I have personal "issues" with anything that involves the rings, so you only having one round of issues.... yea, no sympathy from me knuckle dragger. lol ;)

Okay, I'm off for more kettlebell torture...

I drive 45 miles one way to work. My Crossfit gym is at least another 5-7 miles past work (it might be 10, I'm not sure). Yesterday was my day off -I went to the gym. Today I'm not scheduled to work until 11pm but I'll drive out there just before noon.
Honestly? It's all about how much is it worth it to you to have all he equipment available and certified instructors there to help you? To me, it's worth what I am paying. What doubles that is the attitude in the CF gym, I love it and I am really diggin the people I have met there.

    Oh, Switch!
You'd dig this... yesterday (kettlebell, box, pull WOD) one of the gals (and an instructor) was movin so fast she gave herself a blood blister underneath her callus!! You wanna talk nasty wicked looking...
