    Question for getting in shape

    Hi,
I am about to graduate High School, come spring, I am looking into colleges with criminal justice programs, but not to get off topic, I am a little bent out of shape, I was wondering if anyone has advice for a workout in order to get ready for the physical exam. Along with what happens at the exam. If anyone could tell me, that would be great. thanks.

Your local PD should have those answers for you.

Also a lot of PDs put what the test requirements are, online. Check out their website.

How to pass the test? Get into a good workout routine and stick with it. Dont expect to be able to do a couple of workouts a few weeks before and be golden.

As for actual workout routines, we've got a freak on the board that will preach (here) about the crossfit (you can check iout their website at crossfit.com). Of course this same individual complained on how he was sore for a month when he first started it... Personally, I'm still just doing the standard run/lift routine. I run 3 days a week, lift 3 days a week take the last day off as a rest day.

My advice would be to find out what the test consists of. Once you get that answer, begin a routine that reflects the exact workouts on the test. Keep on a low fat/ ,medium carb intake *depending on how much you work out). Most of the time the people I know trying to get back into shape work out, and lose weight. When it comes time for the test, they found that they were never working a certain muscle group in accordance with the test exercises. You will find it it tuff to complete them the right way. Getting into shape and training for a core test is different. So stick with what is on the test along with a good cardio routine. Also drop the soda if you drink it(water water and water) even if its the diet kind.

I'm not sure, but I think Blue's referring to me as a "freak"... she's just scared of crossfit.

Anywho, I one hand, I don't think I would suggest someone to go out and hit crossfit who is just starting to think about getting into shape. However, I am not saying that for the reasons that some may think. In order to scale back some of crossfit's exercises and substitute equitable exercises, one would need a pretty solid foundation of knowledge of fitness and exercise. Generally speaking, in possessing said knowledge, one would likely be beyond the "thinking about getting in shape" stage of things.

With that said, I sure wish there was cross fit around before I want to Army boot! Life would have been a lot easier, taht's for sure! :D

Uhhh....yea, no. I just don't like the idea of being sore and barely able to walk for a month. You're whimpering was enough to keep me away from it. :p

I would encourage you to do the basics while in college. Look at some physical fitness courses offered at your intended college as well as athletics classes and/or intramural sports. After you get started and think you are in shape, jump up to crossfit.
