    BCAA- Illegal?

    Hello everyone,

I was wondering if anyone knows if BCAA - Branched Chain Amino Acids would show up on a police department Urin Analisys as something illegal?
It contains L-Leucine, L- Isoleucine and L- Valine. It can be purchaed over the counter and I think it is comparable to Whey products. The reason I am asking is that I was told at the gym that I go to that olympic competitors are not allowed to use certain products like the one I mentioned since it can return a hot UA. I am not a competative athlete by any means but I am concerned if taking this would cause me to return a hot UA when applying with police departments and thereby DQ me from the process.

    Thanks everyone

If you question it, why would you take it? Just stick to vitamins and whey and just working out and lifting weights.

NO offense directed towards someone who works out to get in shape but you will use your brain a lot more than your brawn as a police officer. Common sense , the ability to think on your feet and just being above average in the IQ area will carry you a lot longer and farther than those ripped biceps will.

No, BCAA aren't illegal and they won't care in the urine analysis. I took them through my entire hire process and I made it.

I'm confused :S, his point was valid. BCAA are amino acids found in protiens and vegetables.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with taking them.

This question is like asking if taking a multivitamin will have DQ.

Something that should clue you in is where you buy the stuff. If you have to go down dark alleys or get it from a "friend" at the gym odds are it is illegal. If you go to the store and buy it you can be pretty sure it is legal. The issue actually becomes that your body will urinate the excess out causing you to show up positive certain physical issues. I had that issue when I left the military. Fortunately I had the physical far enough in advance that I was able to take a week off from the gym and supplements and re-pee.

If you base your decision on what is legal for the Olympics you will find most things are regulated by the IOCC, but not necessarily illegal. You can't even have caffeine in your system and compete in the Olympics. The no caffeine rue is why I never became a Olympic athlete (that and the complete lack of talent:D).
But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object, evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new guards for their future security.

Translation for the intellectually challenged: If the government screws the people too much, it is the right and duty of the people to revolt and form a new government.

He may well have had a valid point in that post.

However, he claimed to be a Law Enforcement Officer in his profile, and his sole purpose on this site was to spam and advertise HIS site.

In the process, he made a single valid point. I admit that.

    Thanks

Thanks to everyone who took the time to answer my question. I appreciate your time. I was told that taking BCAA would help to prevent the soreness that you can get after a workout. I have never done or exprimented with drugs, do not drink alcohol or coffe, never been drunk and do not smoke. I know, I know, I am a nerd

I tend to be carefull with what I allow into my body and I wanted to double check with someone who have more knowledge about this topic than I do. so again, thank you very much for your assistance.

    Take care folks,

As mentioned already Branched chain amino acids are found in foods we all eat. This supplement will not show up in the test.

Before you pee in that little cup there will be a form to fill out listing everything you have eaten over the previous few days and what medication and supplements you have taken.

    Good luck in the process...

Your BCAA are more a building base for after you have broken down your current muscle fibers and proteins. Your body goes catabolic (breaking down of muscle) and needs to be replenished. Amino acids are able to pulled out of protein and absorbed in the blood stream and back into the exhausted muscles.

I don't know what sport or level of exercise you work at, but taking BCAA for recovery is smart and important. You need to include glutamine, which you can find in most whey protein drinks, along with your BCAA.

More to the point, your question of BCAA showing on a urinalysis test are not a worry. You can over supplement yourself and cause non-absorbtion of the stuff your taking. It is going to be carried right on out of your system in your urine. You have non-essential BCAA and essential BCAA, the first being the type your body cannot make on it's own, and the second being one it can provided protein levels and other vitamins are present.

I will babble on with this because I am into this whole thing, so I will stop here. BCAA+Glutamine are good and fine for you, just don't take more than you need, and search for it online for cheaper prices.

just get a good protein blend and you will get enough BCAA's. I suggest On Pro-Complex or BSN Syntha- 6. BSN products are usually extremely overpriced and under perform however Syntha-6 is a good blend and their cookies and creme is by far the best protein powder I have ever tasted. I think the ON is a better blend though.

As people have stated in this thread, branched chain AAs are found in food; however, they ARE NOT found in vegetables.

Branched-chain AAs are among the essential amino acids, and essential amino acids are NOT found in vegetables. They are only found in meat.

Vegetarians, however, can still attain complete protein as long as they combine grains with legumes (such as a peanut butter n jelly sandwich, using whole wheat bread).
