Workout music take 2 (minus the pee pee contests!!!)

OK, it looked like it could have been a good topic, so I shall try to revive it...

I typically listen to whatever is being blasted in the gym...usually techno/trance/hip hop/rap/hard rock/metal...the guy that owns the gym has severe music ADD, LoL

The type of workout depends on what will get me going too....
if its my hypertrophy phase, I can do with anything as long as its not the eclectic trance that relaxes you and zones you out

For the strength phase, I like to stick with the 80's rock/metal or the techno covers of older 80's & 90's songs to get me pumped.

For the power phase it needs to be hard & thrashing or like a hardcore/happy hardcore techno song. Also what works good is that one of the gym managers that works early on the weekends is big into Norse Metal....its GREAT for the power phase, except when its one of those really epically slow starters before the thrashing of the power chords....the shorter "windups" do better to keep the focus.

    FOR VALHALLA!!!! LoL

Now, lets continue this one and play nice!

Vigilante justice?....heh, makes my job slightly easier

"The lesser the paperwork, the happier I am, and I'm not happy. You shoulda killed him" - SGT "Doc" James P. Swinney, Medic, B Co. 1/64 AR, 3ID(M), OIF I

Before you debate the law with me or another officer, make sure you have a "firm" grasp of the english language and try researching it, quoting it, or something else valid instead of "Well I heard that...."

Someone needs to come up with something else witty to quote...

    Yes it has come back!

My choices have to be a pretty good mix. I usually have some 311 playing, some Dropkick Murphys, Avenged seven fold, The Who, Bruce Springsteen, and even some Creed. I usually put it on shuffle and just go to work.

On a side note, I belong to a YMCA ( Actually about 10 of them because I have a first coast memebership) and I seem to notice a lot of times I am there, they are playing that song " When I think about you I touch myself" Which I always think is weird for a place such as the YMCA. Maybe I am just getting old

My gym plays Jack FM. In case you are fortunate enough NOT to know the channel, it has no DJ and is completely random... 1 minute listening to New Kids on the Block, then a little Pink Floyd, followed by some Foo Fighters, maybe chasing it with a little Neil Diamond! When I complained, they said they were trying to taylor the music to the clientel. I don't think they appreciated it when I pointed out that the 2 90 year old retirees (who will be gone in a month) should not take precedence over the rest of us 30-something-7+-year members!

Thank God for my Zune with Sure sound-excluding earphones! I have about 40hrs of good, upbeat music on there for working out. Some of the favorites on my workout playlist include Avenged Sevenfold, AFI, POD, Foo Fighters, Linkin Park, Disturbed, 3 Doors Down, Rise Against, Dope, Drowning Pool, and Harry Connick Jr.

....ok, the Harry Connick Jr. was in there just to see if you were paying attention. I love Harry, but he never finds it to the gym. :D

I've attempted to workout in my gym without my Zune. Yea, that wont happen again. That had to be one of the single most horrific exeriences of my young adult life. Like Switch's gym, mine plays that JACK FM b.s.

My play lists varies all over with AC/DC, AFI, Seether, Three Days Grace, Disturbed, Avenged Sevenfold, Lacuna Coil, Buckcherry, Rob Zombie, Korn, Sixx AM, Mudvayne, Static-X, Kamelot, Powerman 5000, Linkin Park, Atreyu. Pretty much anything you can list as hard rock or metal and I'm happy. Well, except for Metalica -gags

My "running playlist" on my iPod:

Danger Zone (Top Gun Album Version)
    Machinehead (Bush)
Fuel (Metallica - S&M Live With the SFSO)
    Dancing With Myself (Billy Idol)
Looking Down The Barrel Of A Gun (Beastie Boys)
I Wanna Be Sedated (The Ramones)
Killing In The Name (Rage Against The Machine)
    Creep (Radiohead)

This will usually last for a 3 mile run and a 1/2 mile cool down period. On a side note, I do not recommend, EVER, taking a 3 week hiatus after successfully passing your PAT for your particular department. Granted, I had a decent excuse: Week 1, packing the apartment; Week 2, moving half way across the country; Week 3, beginning a new job and unpacking.

That being said, running 3 miles in New York in 75-80 degree weather pales in comparison to running in the human blast furnace that is Oklahoma in July. I have never sweat so much in my life. I might as well have been running with OC sprayed in my eyes. Time to invest in a crappy running hat and in some new Under Armor shirts.

I will never get that slack again. My body is thanking me for the abrupt wake up call, and I get to look forward to more running this evening. Fortunately, the academy running track is a 5 minute drive away and is open to the public. This will really be an advantage for me over the course of the next 11 months as I prepare for what will hopefully be a start in the June '09 academy.

    Good times.

That's no joke! Unlike you, I have no "real" excuse. I took a little over 2 months off. The weather broke for mountain biking and I dropped running until this past week. Yeaaaa, I felt that one for the next few days! Now I'm making sure I at least get 1 or 2 runs in a week along with my trail time. :D

Believe it or not Bob Marleys -Could you be loved, is a great song to do some jogging to. :D

But when I do strength training I listen to metal, usually Static-X, Disturbed, or Bullet for My Valentine. Metal is also good for when I shoot target practice ;)
