    Proper Running form

i have to start running since for many reasons other then for nypd

i heard there is a proper form on how you're suppose to run

like for sprinting you never put your heel on the floor

but for long distances was it heel then toes or the other way around

if anyone can shed some light on the subject that would great

I think that is mainly advice that applies to hard-core competitive runners. I am not one of those people. If you are a novice and aren't causing yourself injury, it would seem to me that you are more likely going to hurt than help yourself by artificially changing the way your feet hit the ground. Use whatever natural form you have, the one tip I have found helpful is to "lead with your hips"--don't lean too far forward, so you can breathe effectively and avoid hurting yourself. Having a shoe that is apporpriate to your foot and designed for running is probably much more important, especially to a beginner. Check out http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml if you are totally new to running, it will be helpful. There is a lot of good stuff I found helpful and interesting thoughout that site. Of course, actually DOING the running is the most helpful thing of all :D Be sure your doctor gives the ok to your plans before you start.
    Always we begin again.
