    Running and workout partners?

Do you all find it is more helpful to run and workout with someone? It is hard for me to find someone though that will do the weight lifting part with me. Most of my lazy friends just want to walk. Just wanted to get feed back on if you all work out alone.

I used to work out with my unit everyday. I have been out for about 5 years and started training and eating right about two weeks ago. I just moved to the area, so I really don't know anybody.

I like running by myself because it lets me concentrate on running. No conversations, no bs, just running. The key is motivation.

As far as the weight lifting, my suggestion would be a gym. You can meet people there with similar goals and even take classes with a personal trainer. Then you won't have the problem of no spotter. If you prefer working out alone, you could always get a home gym like a bowflex.

To me , running is best when you can do it at YOUR own pace. And the mental side of it is strong. I find it hard to adjust to another persons pace and even I don't run at the same pace every time.

Lifting is more of a team event where it is good to have someone there to spot and or encourage you to keep going.

I may be in the minority, but I like running with someone else that is around the same fitness level as me. It gives me a sense of competition, and I seem to perform better. For example, the day I took my physical test, I ran the best time I had when I ran with 24 other people. Just the idea of not being at the very back of the pack motivated me. But now I run at the gym on a treadmill, so it doesn't really matter.

I prefer running alone, as I tend to challenge myself more.

Weightlifting I prefer having a partner- so I CAN challenge myself. I like the support and encouragement as well as knowing it's a bit safer.

While running with someone once in a while is nice, I rarely do it (or any cardio with someone else). The way I see it, one of the 2 is nto getting the most out of the workout (running a little slower for the other). I also like the "me time".

I LOVE lifting with a partner. When I was overseas, I always had a buddy with me to lift. NOw that I am back home, I NEVER do. I usually just try to steal someone away for a minute to help me with my heavy sets. When there are no people around in the gym (or people I would trust with a spot, anyway), I go to the dumbells or power-rack for my heavy sets.

It seems to work out alright for me.

I run with my dogs. It may sound corny, but seeing them run and watching their smiling expression, as the wind blows across their faces, pushes me to go further. They don't complain, they go at whatever pace I am going, and they LOVE it. It helps that they are high energy dogs too and that physical/mental workout burns lots of their pent up energy.
