    Running or walking?

    I would really appreciate it if people could help me with these things,

    1, Which is better for losing weight on rear/thighs, Running or walking?
    2, How much of it?
    3, How many reps per set should I do for my calve workout? How many sets per workout?

    Running, by far.

    Lets say you walked every day for two months or you ran every day for two months, you would be in WAY better shape by running.

    As for the question about sets and reps there is no definitive answer, everyone is different so set up your own routine, make sure it is not grueling when you start out but also make sure it is not too easy.

    I would agree that running is more effective, however if you are not use to running, pace yourself, you may even want to start off with a nice fast paced walk and work yourself up to a jog, then run. I also agree that everyone's lifting ability is different, depending on your body. Find something that works, gradually increase.

    From all that I've read, spot reducing is a myth. Instead, one has *overall* weight loss success.

    The reason: you cannot control which adipocytes (the things that store excess fat in your body) release that stored fat to reduce the amount of fat we have in a certain part of our body.

    As long as you are expending more calories than you put into your daily diet, you will lose weight. That includes, normal every-day calories burned, calories burned through exercise and calories cut from your diet. If a sedentary person starts walking away 100 calories a day as well as eating 200 less calories a day, they are actually reducing their daily caloric intake by 300 calories. Once they deprive their body of 3600 calories less than what their body usually takes in- they will have lost 1 lbs.

    Anyhow... my point was over all weight loss is what is attained. There's no such thing as spot reducing.

    That all depends on what you are doing NOW in your workouts. If you are not active, start slowly and work your way up. Completing a 20 minute walk may be a feat to some.

    Personally, I started on a treadmill by mixing up running/walking. I set a set number of calories I wanted to burn that was reasonable. I didn't stop until I reached that goal. Eventually, I increased that goal... because if you don't challenge the body more it will just get used to what you are doing and stagnate. Slow and steady... set small goals and before you know it you will be doing things you never imagined you would be!

    Losing weight in a specific area is not possible without surgery. Some people have an easy time losing weight from certain spots and other spots are trouble spots but you can't focus on an area. You can tighten up the area with muscle but that will not focus the weight loss. Weight loss is weight loss and it will come off in time. If you are just starting out running, take it easy. It WILL take time to be able to go distances. There is a website that I have offered here before called coolrunning.com. There is a section called training there and a schedule called "couch to 5k" that will help. It's a great tool. Keep focused and keep working and it will come off.

    Reps for calf workout - same as any other muscle. You can do less weight/more reps for toning or more weight/less reps for building muscle. If you are just starting out then don't dive in with huge weights, get a base going first. Good luck.

    That depends on your current fitness level. I believe a reasonable goal would be to run on average three days a week for 20-30 minutes. Eventually working in circuit training, long runs, short/fast runs, and maintenance runs.

    I would concentrate on achieving a solid running routine, before I attempt to introduce a calf workout.

    What are jumping jacks good for? Are they as good as walking or running?

    btw, I heard that running burned suger and not fat. Is that right?

    I hate running. I avoid if not ignore it as much as possible.

    When I have to run I perfer to be on a treadmill because I hate running in circles, and I hate the idea of getting tired and having to walk back to where I came from. :p

    Jumping jacks can't really touch running... if for nothing else I don't think you want to do jumping jacks for 15+ minutes non stop. It would be horridly boring. They're a good warm up exercise, or good to throw in a calisthenics routine though.

    Any exercise you do is going to burn "sugar" first. Whatever food you currently have in your body is going to be tapped as a fuel source until thats depleted(carbs are a great fuel source). Once your body has depleted that fuel source it will then begin burning stored fat as energy... which is why many say it is better to workout in the morning on an empty stomach.

    Running is better by far! I am not sure how old you are, but if you take (220-age)= Your maximum heart rate. If you are wanting to work on weight management your heart needs to be at 60-70 percent of your max when running/jogging.

    Hope that helps somewhat!

    Well I lost 15 pounds in 8 weeks running my butt (or gut really) off. I went from 191 to 176 running 5 days a week, a couple miles a day. So I guess my vote is for running.
