pulse rate at end of run

I usually run 3 miles at a pop and when I am done , almost regardless of the pace, I have a pulse rate of 168.

I can slow down some and get it to drop but rarely is it ever higher.

Using the target heart range info, I am aboev where they recommend me to be.

I am 46 yrs old, weigh 162 and have been running for 29 years.

I don't really feel like slowing down to simply get into the target zone but is it worth my while to do so ?

At rest , I can get my pulse down to the low to mid 40's if I sit still a while.

I used the heart monitor thingy at the gym on the equipment once. Went from about 140, to 160, to 180, to 0.

My understanding is that being above your THR causes you to stop buring fat as your primary source of fuel and revert to glucose.

Do you feel lethargic or extra hungry after these runs?

    Hungry ? No.

Lethargic ? Lately , I have been running in the 90+ degree heat and that kind of takes it's toll But normally , no I dont feel dead afterwards.

I wasn't aware of the glucose vs fat issue.
