    6 Week IL POWER TEST

Hello: I am 21 (175lbs, 5'6") and will be starting the academy in June. I have exactly 6 weeks before i take the IL POWER Test. I have been running but not regularly. Im not in the best shape, but i REALLY need to pass this test, OBVIOUSLY. I need some advice on what i should be doing the next 6 weeks in order to pass it. The requirements are below. This was a last minute type of thing so I really have't prepared for it that well. I have all the info from the state website on how to prepare for it, but is there any other help that i can get to pass this in 6 weeks. I will be sent to the Police Training Institute in Champaign, Illinois for the academy.

I would like some advice on what the academy at PTI is like also if anyone has been there.

    Run 1.5 mile: 13:46
    SitUps: 37 min
Bench Press: 98% of Body Weight
    Sit-n-Reach: 16in

    Please help.

Well to lose your belly requires healthy eating and regular exercise. There's no way to just lose fat in one area, so basically your goal should be to eat healthy and exercise.

As far as what exercise, running is by far your best bet, it improves your cardio and burns fat. But try to develop some type of weight routine (search for Stew Smith for some good ones), the two together boost your metabolism big time. Doesn't look like you need to lase a tone of weight, so six weeks should be enough time.

Well, 6 weeks should be more then enough time to be able to pass those requirements. As long as your not totally out of shape. PTI when I was in THE STATE academy was a joke. We made fun of it the whole time. Not sure how it is now but one of our recruits is there now and says its like going to high school. First week is tougher just to weed out the people who dont want to be there but after that its easy. Your hardest part for the physical is probably going to be the running. Start out by walk/running a mile and then each week bump it up a half mile until your walk running around 3. Then just start running for distance/time.
You can bet that I stand ready, when the Wolf growls at your door.
