Now, we must all fear evil men. But there is another kind of evil which we must fear most, and that is the indifference of good men.- The Boondock Saints

The main idea in how they advertise this is that the program constantly introduces new moves to avoid a plateau. It's mainly targeted for beginners who really won't run into any immediate plateaus anyway because they are not acclimated to regular training- makes them think that this program really does break plateaus and that they really will get a "Ripped bod in 90 days". It's a clever way of using the Placebo effect. Sooner or later; everyone runs into a plateau and sometimes it takes better nutrition, sometimes its more, less or different exercises or sometimes it's just a simple matter of changing your grip on a bar to break out of it.
Learning the compound movements- your squats, chins, deadlifts, military presses, etc. will train your body on a full scale; bring in stabilizer muscle control and development that isolation training cannot bring in AND with good tempo will provide an aerobic and anaerobic workout- so you get the best of both worlds all in one shot.
You don't need someone telling you to do 200 crunches when 5 sets of squats will blast your core muscles harder than any isolation exercise can.
In it's defense- I like that the program includes bodyweight exercises and a 3 phase nutrition program...but just like anything else- if you are a beginner and really want to learn and be effective at something you have to jump right in in a place where you can really learn and in this case- it's a gym.

I have actually done a bit of this program personally. One of my instructors for a group fitness class I'm in brought in a few of the tapes for us to try out. I've got to tell you that, while the guys personality isn't my cup of tea, I was dripping by the end of it. This program changes things up, keeps you moving, shows the right way to do things, and will work your *** off. Maybe there are different ways of getting the same thing done, but isn't that the idea? Why would you want to do the same routine every day?
So amongs my above rambeling I'll say this. If you're wanting to try something new then give it a try. If you're wanting to do something more than just run and lift by yourself then give it a try. If what you've been doing hasn't worked for you then give it a try. If you're happy with where you're at and what you're doing, pass it by.
cheers
P90X is the follow up to P90. I have done P90 and if you stick with the program I garantee you will see results. But you have to be committed and stick with it. I dropped 25 pounds and added I don't know how much muscle. And I only stuck with it for a little over 60 days. I since got out of the routine and put on some weight and lost some muscle. So I am trying to get back into the routine and get going on something again.
