    Unhappy And then there was that wall! :-(

    Right to the point, here is my predicament... I can not get over that 6 foot solid fence to save my life (no problem on the chainlink fence). I am getting beyond frustrated. I am out there in the park at the practice course almost every night and I just can not manage it. I have tried the crab crawl, the chicken wing, the leg swing and the run-vault. Big fat nothing! Well, that's not entirely true - I have been looking like a textbook DV victim for months now with gigantic bruises. I have another PT test coming up and I don't know what to do. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

    Get your arms over as far as they will go. Pull yourself up using your arms, inch by inch. Use your legs to assist when possible.

    grab the wall with your hands, plant your strong foot in the center, and step up while you pull with your arms. it's a measure of upper body strength. start lifting some weights.

    you need to build your arms up. there's not really a trick to it. if you can't do it, then the problem is you're not strong enough to do it.

    Just keep on trying, dont give up. Train alittle too so you can gain some more strength. You will make it eventually, just dont give up.

    Not sure where you are trying to get hired. Might go to that dept and ask if you can practice. I would go as far as presenting them with a hold-harmless agreement. If they are not willing to do it......liability thing.......might look around and find a jurisdiction that might be willing to accomodate your practice.

    Start doing a serious upper body/ pull-up routine.
    Be advised, I'm mean nasty and tired. I eat concertina wire and piss napalm and I could put a round through a fleas *** at 300 yards. So why don't you hump somebody else's leg mutt-face before I push yours in.

    This is good advice, I am a woman and this is the technique I use. I would also add that you want to keep your arms straight until you get one of your legs over the wall.

    Basically I walk up to the wall, grab the top of it and plant my right leg (it doesn't matter which leg, I tend to use my right) as high on the wall as I can. I then swing my left leg up; usually a little higher than my right leg. Then I swing my right leg over the top, catching the top with the back of my foot or calf and pull with both my leg and arms to get my body over, this creates some very sexy bruises by the way :D . Sometimes I need to do a little catch up step with my right leg before I swing it over. I do not start pulling with my arms until I have my leg over.

    I've noticed that when I ,and some other people I've watched, try to pull with their arms too soon they loose their footing on the wall and slide down, plus they seem to be exerting a lot more energy with their upper body. I'm not a physics major, but it seems that when your arms are extended, you body is being pushed into the wall, which helps you to keep your footing. If you start pulling before your leg is over, the weight of your body is pushing downward and then you slide off.

    It took me a long time to figure out how to get over the wall, I found it is more technique than strength. I actually video taped myself so I could analyze what I was doing, it really seemed to help. Once you get the technique down, it's really easy.

    ^^^^^My technique is very similiar.

    I run up to the wall, plant my left foot in the center of the wall as high as I can, while I hang on the the top and swing my right foot to the top. (I hook the back of my heel on top so it won't slip off). Let most of your weight rest on the left foot, or you will slide down.

    Then use your left foot to bounce up inch-by-inch while you pull with your right leg and arms. When you get far enough up, you can hook your right knee over the top, and you'll be able to pull yourself up fairly easy.

    It's not pretty, but it works.

    I'm sure it works for you two, but it sounds like it would be rather funny to watch.

    i personally think the chicken wing is the best route to go. thats the method they taught me in the corps. hook that right or left elbow up onto the wall then just pull the rest up. if you use your right arm, swing your left leg as high onto the wall as possible and use it to push/pull your way over. once you get your half body on the wall, simply roll over it. this has been the easiest way for me to do these things, mainly because i am short.
