Rather than running for distance, right now, I would start out running for time. Go run for 20 min at a pace that you can hold the whole time. Run out 10 and then come back. You will find, in a very short time, you will be getting out further and further in that 10 min. I would do this 3 days a week.
1 day a week do some sprints. Sprint about 45sec-1 min and then walk for 2 min. Repeat 4-5 times. This will help you get your wind pretty quickly.
Do this for about a month, and then check your 2 mile time. I would check the progress about 1/month.
It's not a great outline for you, but it is a start.
Good luck.
