Consume more calories than you burn. Eat lots of fruit, especially bananas. Go to GNC and buy some weight-gain powder. If you do aerobic exercises, cut those down and focus almost entirely on strength training in the weight room.
The good thing about us skinny people is that we can usually sprint pretty fast! :p

I'll tell you what always works for me:
Bread, Potatoes, Hamburgers and diet soda's.... I believe the diet soda's set the whole chemical reaction off like a bomb... :D
Now, getting it all off of you in 30 years might be a bit tricky...:p

So, I'm in the process of applying to LEA agencies right now... and I have the same situation. I need to build upper body strength. I stand 6'3" and weight 160 lbs. I'm not looking to bulk up just for the hell of it, but obviously I need enough strength not to die in academy. At the same time... like you said Spiff... I am a great runner, and don't want to lose that. Is there a better balance for building muscle while maintaining a good aerobic workout schedule?

I'm the same way. 5'11 and a buck fifty soaking wet. When I went through Basic Training, I gained 15 lbs...by eating about 6000-7000 calories a day and working out 3 hours of the day.
If you want, try the GNC powder. But the best way is to continue running, and start doing muscle resistance exercises as well. Do pushups, pullups, and there are a lot more exercises for the arms/chest, get a pair of 5 lbs weights, run with them in hand as well.
You just have to discipline yourself. Screw gaining weight, some people are just skinny. Work on getting your upper body strong, but don't focus on the scale, focus on getting better and better, and pushing yourself EVERY workout to the brink of exhaustion.

6'1 200 pounds here.. For the longest time I weighed only 160.
How did I gain 40 pounds in a matter of months?
Eat a steak and a baked potato, with a couple of beers - then go to bed.
Wash, rince, repeat.
Go buy protein shakes and drink three cups a day.

Do you smoke?
If so, give up. I did and put on about 20 kgs real quick. Now i can't get rid of it.

I would strongly discourage you from eating empty calories (junk) and/or carbs to increase weight. I do encourage increasing good calories though. Protein powders are good, as are healthy meals. Increasing your weight will come with age (unfortunately).
I would concentrate more on increasing your strength. I know a lot of very strong skinny people. By increasing your strength, the weight will slowly come. But if you force it... your next post will be "How do I shed excess weight???"

It then dawned on me why I had put on about 5 kgs in as many weeks, when I could never bulk up before, no matter how hard I tried.
Not necessarily recommended if you want to bulk up and not have regular hangovers.

Don't worry, I'm a member of the skinny society too. One thing you just have to look at is it could be your metabolism. I could eat a truck load of food each day and still not gain weight. My wife and many others hate me for it because I can go to a restaurant and eat whatever and however much of it I want to.

I have plenty to give you, 5'11 at 210-215. I want to lose 10-12 lbs before my Academy starts in July. I would rather be like you are now, and work on my "wiry strength".
Good luck...
