Has anyone ever had this or know anything about what causes this? My physical therapist says that I have some symptoms of achilles tendonitis. All I know is that my ankle (one my "good" leg) hurts.

Feel safe at night...sleep with a cop.
If you run, you only go to jail tired.

For some reason, my tendonitis ALWAYS got worse after I slept. Maybe because it was cold when I awoke. After stretching it out, I was usually fine.Originally Posted by mcsap

Michelle, have you tried Cortisone?

Like a cortisone cream? I haven't tried that yet...I'll have to pick some up at the store. I've just been putting ice on it and taking Advil.Originally Posted by TPDHellhound

Not the cream, the shots. Your doctor can give it to you. Tendons have no nerves in them, so the body emits a hormone that sends a pain sensation to the brain. Cortisone blocks the hormone.Originally Posted by DS Michelle
The downside is that you're not actually healing anything, you're just blocking the pain. So you still need to ice it and take anti-inflammatory (Advil). Tendonitis is awful, and gets worse as you age!

calf stretches, stand on a steps with only the middle of your feet up to your toes touching and lift up and down to help strengthen. achilles tendonitis is no joke, if there is something you must do now on it then heel lifts(can be made from the heel section of old shoe soles placed in your current ones) will help alleviate some pain but will also result in in being weakened from lack of use. Your best bet is to lay off of it. If you run, once it begins healing run on more level surfaces, alternate the sides of the road to get even abuse on both feet.
The worst it gets the harder it is to come back from.
I started experiencing slight pain around my Achilles tendon after my 3rd week of running every other day or so. It can be caused by several factors (used shoes, uneven road surface, not stretching enough etc..). If you do a Google search for "Achilles Tendonitis," you will find a lot of useful information.
As others above have suggested, rest and ice. If you run, you probably want to stop running for ten days or so. Avoid walking up stairs as well. Continuing will only aggravate any damage.
My doctor told me to rest for ten days, take some Advil, and ice. I also tried some Orthotics from Dr Scholl's and some Gel Heel Cups; both of which were comfortable to wear.
Take care!
