    Sore from exercising.

I think maybe I over did it. Wednesday after my normal workout habits I decided to do 40 pushups. I felt fine the whole rest of the day. Not sore or anything. But then when I woke up yesterday..I could definitely feel those pushups in my arms/chest/upper back. So I decided I'd take yesterday off and not exercise in an attempt to recover. Well, today I still feel kind of sore.

Not incredibly sore, but when I move a certain way I can definitely remember all 40 of those pushups. So what I'm wondering is would it be a good idea to wait until the soreness goes away completely..or maybe do a light workout today..or just resume as normal and ignore the soreness? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. :D

Take a few Advil. Do more pushups after a day or so of healing.

Well, I've already had a full day of a healing. So I think I'll do a small amount of pushups and see how I feel. I just don't want to injure myself.

don't ignore it. your muscles need to have time to repair themselves. if it's really bad, take more time off. if it's tolerable (like a 4 on a scale of 1-10), continue as scheduled. a little steady state cardio will help loosen you up if necessary.

    soreness

alright heres the deal with muscle sorness. I have been a trainer for 3 years and have been working out for 5 years. Almost after all my workouts the next day, I get sore. Its due to muscle break down. You feel sore because you tore little muscle fibers in your body that repair themselves and make you stronger. Should you feel sore after EVERY workout the next day, all depends on how good the work out was and how heavy you went etc. If youre sore for more than two days you might have slightly over did it. But theres no need for concern. Let your body heal itself and get back at it in acouple of days!

I have a Marine Corps. shirt that says that. :D

I was told by my trainer to eat bananas & drink plenty of water everyday and keep up with the workout. I workout 2 -3 hours everyday and just increase my reps a little each week. This way, I don't over do it and not become seriously sore afterwards.

Plenty of rest, maybe Glutamine powder...or, as Coach used to say...SUCK IT UP:p

It has been my experience that if you over do it, there will usually be some soreness the day after, and if you really over do it, it will hurt even worse the second day after. I am not a professional body builder, but it has been my experience, and has also already been mentioned, that cardio will help in reducing soreness. Hot baths and stretching work too.

    please

    dont be a wuss

    ;)

There was this guy in my academy class that had this crazy 30 minute workout routine (for arms/chest)... I did it with him. It was pretty rough. For 4 days afterwards I could not extend my arms withough a great deal of pain. Not sore... pain.

I still had to do pushups for my T.O.s.

Thanks everyone for the helpful replies. I just decided to rest more and do some light exercising. I think I'm all better now. Time to resume my regularly scheduled workout. :D
