    PT test saturday 4-22-06

Hey guys, I need some help. I have my PT test for a Sheriff's department in NY this saturday. My problem is that got sick as hell yesterday and can hardly get out of bed. I'm on antibiotics but i hope being sick doesn't set me back for my test. I can't do any preparation for this test until i'm completely better or i might not be better for my test. Do you guys have any tips for me. I was struggling on making the situp mark but i've been working really hard on them and was fine until i became sick. Do you guys have any tips for making the situps easier or any helpful websites? For example like using your hips more than your abs, or anything that would make me breeze through them easier? Thanks a lot guys and i'll keep ya posted on my results.

The only way to make situps any easier is to do them regularly, and they get easier over time. No special moves or techniques will circumvent this.

I had surgery a few weeks back, and was scheduled to take the PT for a sheriff's office I'm applying to the very next week. I had my surgeon's nurse fax a medical excuse and was told I could attend the next scheduled PT (in about a month). Get with the department and see what your options are. If you're sick enough where your doctor could vouch for you, you might be able to delay your PT until you're recovered, like I did.

I know being sick sucks but and there are physical limitations when you are ill but sometimes you just gotta push it out.

I know exactly what you mean when you say push yourself. I always work out and played sports throughout college but as of right now i can't even take deep breathes without feeling pain in my lungs/chest. I hope my antibiotics work within the next couple of days so i can do a little more preparation before the PT test. If i'm not feeling better by Thursday i have to call the sheriff's department and see what i can do. But hopefully i can pound out the test this saturday to be done with it. Thanks for the input guys..

there are ways to cheat in situps! I have been a trainer for three years and have seen many strange ways of doing situps! You can use your lower back to lift up and this will take pressure off your abs(which you want to be targeting) and this will in essence give you a swinging effect! Dont recommend this though because you put tremendous amounts of stress on lower back and neck area. But, if it comes down to me passing, anything goes!

I would take ROS advice on this one. I don't know about the "cheating" aspect and risking hurting yourself.

I certainly agree with you! im just throwing the information out there. Honestly, if you want to do more then you would normally do, just get pumped up and believe in yourself. During the test, you'll have you adrenalin pumping and you'll be surprised. When it comes down to pass or fail, you will get it done!

If you're currently on antibiotics for your illness, I would assume you're seeing a doctor for these meds. If I were you, I'd call the Dr. ahead of time and arrange to get a letter/excuse from him and keep it handy. Then if you need to call the sheriff's office to see if they can give you an extension due to your illness, you'll already have the documentation needed to send them. Even if the sheriff's office ends up saying they need a note sent directly from the doctor (ex: having the doctor fax it to them), you can still keep the excuse for your records.

    Just my 2 pennies...
