    Question Kicking the pop habit

Hey everyone, I've been quite impressed with myself at keeping to my weight training, on the other hand my running is still very very poor. But that is beside's the point. I've been trying to stop drinking pop(usually Pepsi). This battle's been a month long, and if memory serves me correct the longest I went without any type of cola was a week, after that I don't went backwords drinking just as much as before. I was talking to a friend of mine about this tonight, and she mentioned I should try drinking carbonated water instead, to slowly get away from the cola. I tried to research this stuff online and here but came up with nothing. Is this stuff going to be better for me than the pop, will it slowly get me away from it like I was told? And does anyone know of any other methods of kicking it?(I sound as if I'm trying to quit smoking or something, haha!)

    Thanks in advance.

When I was heavily into drinking regular soda (pop is something weasel's do ;)), I switched to diet soda. This took an adjustment period but it helped. Then I started weaning my self off that and drank other things such as unsweetened tea, coffee and carbonated water.
"Cheshire Puss," she began, rather timidly... "Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?"
"That depends a good deal on where you want to get to," said the Cat.
"I don't much care where..." said Alice.
"Then it doesn't matter which way you go," said the Cat.

In an attempt to stop drinking pepsi I started drinking glaceau vitamin water. After I got tired of that I found myself grabbing pepsi again.

Another thing, there are a variety of natural sodas at health food stores. They are made with cane sugar which is better for you than the high fructose corn syrup used in mainstream soda. If you need a sweet soda, try one of those instead. It is still sugar though so don't go slamming a whole 12 pack in one sitting.

Also I've found that Diet Coke with Splenda tastes pretty decent.

I used to drink soda, but now drink either water or green tea that I brew and sweeten with honey. It's a lot better for you than drinking any form of pop, which will eventually erode the enamel of your teeth and has been unconfirmed as having a link to stomach cancer. Additionally, substituting pop with tea will give you additional health benefits, as green and black teas have a whole host of positive side effects.

I drank a lot of soda during and before college, but kicked the habit completely by switching to water. For me it wasn't all that difficult. I don't mind the taste of water, and over time came to prefer it. If i wanted a soda, I grabbed a diet. Since I didn't like the taste of diet (and this was before Splenda was used), I mostly drank water. It's pretty shocking when you find out how many empty calories are consumed a day by those who drink sodas regularly, particularly those who have more than one a day.

Today if I drink a regular, non-diet soda it doesn't taste good. It's way too sweet for my tastes.

I stopped drinking pop before my last physical test, about a month prior. I lost like 5 pounds.. I'm willing to bet its just from not drinking carbonated sugar water.

And as mentioned above, Whole Foods has some awesome all natural soda.. The root beer is made out of the real stuff.. the cola is made out of cola!

I think diet pop is addictive or something.... I used to drink a regular soda once or every other day until I started needing to drop some weight. I switched diet and found myself drinking several a day. I hate to admit it, but it was kinda tough to kick that. I found myself really wanting one, much more than I ever did the regular soda with sugar.

I finally dropped all of it. I drink a plain club soda now and then with nothing in it but carbonation.

The "glue-like" texture pop leaves in my mouth is enough for me to leave it alone. Water, Orange juice, Ice tea, powerade, red bull, and a double-double coffee are all the liquids I need to stay alive.

Oh and BTW if you feel like commenting about other "glue-like" substances one might have in their mouth. DONT.

    Sickos.:p

I am going to ignore all of you non-southern people calling them pop or soda. They're all cokes (want a coke? sure. what kind? Dr Pepper.) Drink water and if you feel the need to drink a coke/pop/soda, drink gatorade/powerade/allsport. Do they even make AllSport anymore?

Oddly enough, I too find myself jonesing for Diet Pepsi w/Lime more than I ever did for the regular kind.

The addictive stuff is the high fructose corn syrup. That stuff will mess you up. It blocks the enzymes that tell your body you are full. That's why in the 1970's you could eat a few Oreos and feel full and today you could eat the entire bag and keep going.
