    Swimming

I went this morning swimming, because running was out of the equation for me.. for now (knees hurt, gotta let them rest and do light things)

WOW, 15-20 minutes of laps (resting in between a short while) REALLY surprised how much it took from me. I only did maybe like 8 laps in total, LOL, but daaaaaaaaaaaaayam!

My arms never felt so tired, and my legs... even when lifting weights or running. I got out like 15 minutes ago and my stomach just feels like throwing up right now, I guess from the ab work possibly of swimming? I'm still out of breath, lol

It is because you are not conditioned enough for it. Try walking or jogging the length of the pool back and forth, then do a 10 count heart rate. If it is still elevated higher than were it should be, continue to walk/jog the pool, until you are ready to actually swim it. Then when you can actually swim it, try walking/jogging one half of it and then swimming back, etc. etc.

Gotcha, could you explain that 10 count heart rate?

In addition to what Jynkxxie said, if you haven't gone swimming in a long time, you're using muscles that have probably atrophied and, if you were never really a swimmer, then you're also probably swimming very inefficiently.

If you can do breaststroke, that's a pretty good choice for recovering between laps or sets of laps. Also, if you've got lifeguards at your pool, there's a good chance they are competitive or ex-competitive swimmers - they may be open to giving you tips on improving your stroke mechanics...

What stroke are you using? You may need to work on your breathing rhythm. One thing I liked about swimming and haven't quite gotten the hang of with running is knowing when to breath and getting into a pattern. When doing freestyle I would breath something like every 5 strokes. By controlling my breathing I could swim for longer periods of time.

People don't realize it but swimming is one of the is not the hardest sports that are out there. It is a great work out but you really have to get used to it. You work many many muscles that aren't normally used.
