    Pushups and headaches?

    Hey everyone,

On saturday, I was doing a Police PT test and I did well. My scores will arrive on tuesday. However, when I was doing the pushups, I really pushed myself and after I was through I had a THROBBING headache! I told myself that this was simply because I was involved in a 3 hour workout, and I wasnt use to those conditions. I drank some water, ate something and eventually my headache went away.

But today at the gym, I decided to do some pushups. My muscles arent fully healed and my legs are sore, so I decided not to push myself. I did about 10 slow pace pushups when it felt like a bomb exploded in the right side/back of my head! It felt like I popped something. I havent the slightest idea what happened. I stopped working out, took some tylenol, ate something and now my head is a bit better.

Can anyone provide insight on my problem? What is going on here? Is it because I am still sore and did not give my muscles enough time to rest?

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Thanks

    -Kev

Ive done some research and several sources say thta "too much stress on the body can trigger a migraine." Also, they state such headaches as a "weightlifter's headache" which is an explosive headache caused by over-exertion.

Seeing is how I hardly ever get headaches, I believe my headache was due to over-exertion from the PT exercise on Saturday, Paintball on sunday and the workout today.

Thus I cancelled my martial arts class and plan to take it easy the rest of the day.

However, I still look forward to hearing from any of you. If anyone has had this happen to them or if anyone knows exactly what it is thats bothering me. Thanks

Loads of 'nanas and plenty of water.

Also you may have been inadvertingly holding your breath or not breathing enough when do the P/ups.

Have broken your nose in the past or do you suffer from sinus probs?

If you do, try a breath strip on your conk and or Olbas oil dabbed on your t shirt.

I've had my nose smashed twice and it effects my breathing, that and Keylime pie Krispy Kreme I've got in my mouth.:D

man, today I was looking at this banana on my counter. I was pondering eating it for breakfast and said to myself "nah, I dont feel like it this morning."

More research shows its defiantly a migraine. Hopefully after a few days rest, water and all that jazz, I will be up to capacity.

Since i'm familiar with your academy I can assure you their are plenty more pushups to come. Make sure your body as plenty of electrolites and get used to "front leaning rest position."

trust me, Im set with pushups. in my martial arts class we hold the position for 5 minutes as a warmup and then do plenty more.

my concern was not with the pushups, just the headache I got recently.

But thanks for the advice as usual :D

Just make sure you're hydrated and have plenty of sugars you need too. That's something to always double check with your doctor. Not that it should ever progress to something serious but their will be a few instructors who ar ecertified as emt's to take care of you if needed.

I went to the doctor and she said that I may have a sinus infection. Also, that the constant up and down of pushups creates pressure with the fluid thats in there and can cause migraines. She gave me some meds, I should be able to work out in about a week. Im glad that it isnt exercise related. Thanks for all the advice everyone.
