Is it a bad idea to do pushups every day or should I do them every other day?

Personally, I'd alternate between pushups and ice cream sandwiches.Originally Posted by AMW
Otherwise, you're going to get sick of the pushups really quick. ;)

Here is a good idea for you and what you may or may not want to do.

Need to find time to do push-ups...?
Do them (or crunchies for that matter) during commercials while you are at home watching TV.
During the academy I started doing this and my PT score when through the roof after a month or so....
My Calc teacher and I do them in class!
The thing about push ups is that there are so many variations of push ups that work so many different areas of the upper body, that you could spend two weeks just trying to repeat one of those variations. So I say go for it. Just alternate the type you do.
J....that's what I did (and need to start doing again for that matter). Start with regular ones the first time around....then maybe diamonds....then wide-armed.....then perhaps use a end table or ottman to put my feet on and repeat.....Originally Posted by Jynkxxie

Seriously, you will be doing push-ups all day every day in the academy so you might want to get used to it. Do them until you can't do them anymore, wait some time, and start again.

I usually alternate if they are really big sets OR if they are part of another workout. For instance, when working my trest and triceps at the gym, I do 100 pushups in sets of 20, along with bench press, machines etc. Therefore, the next day, I do no pushups or chest exersises.
I wouldnt recommend working on pushups to muscle failure everyday. Thats just asking for trouble.
Doing pushups everyday in the academy for 24 weeks straight really burned me out on pushups. I mix things up now and try to make time to hit the weight room more often. However, if you're about to enter the academy by all means, keep hitting the pushups. And the more reps the better because they will exercise you to exhaustion. Make sure your exhaustion level is higher than the other guy(s). Believe me, when they're on the floor barfing up a lung, you want to have more left in you.
