    Suppliments/Programs for Wieght Loss

Wieght loss, man what a pain in the ***.

Alright, here is the deal, i am currently trying to get back into shape to be able to pass all of the tests to be a PO. I was in pretty good shape (for a big guy) in HS thanks to football and Wrestling ( i was 6'3"-6'5" and 275), and was able to do a hell of alot more then I can now. Then came the knee injury, blew out the ACL and tore the MCL in my right knee. Needless to say, working out wass completely out of the question for almost 3 years. I am fine now though, with no problems and nothing to stop me from reaching my goals.

Sad to say, but I am no where near the shape I used to be in, I am currently 6'6" and 360lbs. (yeah im a big boy) Trust me, Im completly unhappy with it, and know that I need to change it.

Now for the request of advice.

I am currently using Hydroxycut, Propolene and a Whey Protein to suppliment my diet and exercise routine. I am looking to loose ALOT of wieght, this isnt your normal "I want to be trim" kind of thing. Were talking 60-85 lbs I NEED to loose in the next year. All without surgery (a Viable option, but my insurance wont cover it).

My question is, do any of you have experience with these suppliments at all? How well they work....ect?

Any advice as to what I could do, or use in conjunction with a good diet and exercise program? Also, any suggestions on any good diet programs would be helpfull too. Im just crappy at picking out food. HS was all carb loading caus I used to burn so much of it off during practice/games. I do know though that the best way to loose the wieght is to take in less calories then I am using....... But I dont want to be eating rabbit food my entire life either.

I guess for a guy mysize im ok, I still have a lot of muscle mass (my family is naturaly well built) and strength, I still do 150 pushups every night (broken up of course) and 80 sit ups. So im no fat slob or sloth by any means, but I just need to get rid of the spear tire.

    Any advice is GREATLY appreciated.

Oh, um, if you want a kind of better idea of what kindd of shape I am in, the links in my sig kind of show it.

scrap the Hydroxycut and focus on tightening up your diet. thermogenics are a waste of $$. if you need a boost, grab a shot of black coffee ;) :p. in order to drop bf you need to be eating below maintenance. do you track your calories/macronutrients? your calories (without knowing your estimated bf% or activity rate) on a cut should be right around 4680 per day (bwx13 as a very general rule. bwx15 for maintenance. bwx17/18 to bulk). what does your training/cardio look like?

Don't waste your money on supplements. With your size and weight i would just start out with a good diet. Either walk or start ridding a bike. For me i write everything down that i eat everyday that helps stay on diet. good luck with you quest.

I just started really counting calorie intake, and I have been shooting for an intake of 3,500 a day. As for cardio, I actually saw a program on here that I liked http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/Pr...ve_program.htm , I need to build up my endurance also, but im pretty confident that I could handle that. Ill also be mixing in a few sprinting exercises I remember from HS, latterals, 60 yard dash, stuff like that with mixed reps. As far as wieght traning, I am trying to lay back on anything too heavy till i drop the wieght, i am primarly concentrating on Pushups, Sit Ups, Crunches, and a little resistance training. Im not completely sure yet what im gonna do as far *** beyond that, but im very open to suggestion.

Oh, not to mention that i do about 36 flights of stairs (6 Flights every hour) a day. (doubt it helps really, but eh, its nice to get some kinnd of physical work out even if its slight while AT work)

no need to lay back on lifting. weights = increase muscle mass/strength = faster metabolism = weight loss. your calories are a bit low considering your size. not eating enough can stall fat loss just as quickly as overeating but you're definitely on the right path.

I agree with the board, a diet and excersie is a must, however I have used hydroycut (spelling), unfortunatly the FDA made them take out the working ingredient of ephedra, if you could get your hands on an old bottle somehow, that stuff is like lipo in a bottle.

    weightwatchers?

I used weight watchers online http://www.weightwatchers.com/ and lost 40lbs pretty easily in 6 months. I was working out, but still eating pretty crappy, I managed to lose 20lbs on my own, but then hit a plateau.
I really liked weight watchers, I didn't have to go to any meetings or anything, but it did give me a way to track what I was eating and my work outs. I found it to be pretty painless, by making good food choices I was able to eat through out the day and rarely felt deprived or hungry.
My dad started on the program as well, he was about 315lbs and has dropped 50 lbs so far. Best part for me is that I totally adjusted the way I eat. I haven't had time to keep track of my points or really stick to the program since my Academy started a couple months ago, but I have been able to maintain and even lose weight because I am continuing to eat a healthy diet (of course running almost daily doesn't hurt either).
    good luck

Would a police department actually hire someone who used weight loss surgery? (I'm assuming the surgery option is gastric bypass?) Not knocking, not bashing, just curious. I know several people who have had it, and all of them have experienced sudden, severe complications at various points.

    Hey man I'm with you!

Last June I had become completly sick of being so overweight so this is what I have done. And I am proud to say I have LOST 72 lbs. and kept it off. I'm still losing weight only slower now than at first. But anyway.......

    Incease activity level

I lifted weights and did crunches 3 nights a week.

    Watch what you eat.

I set a limit of 8 grams of fat. And I will NOT eat anything over that for a meal.
Also, keep up your protien intake and lots of veggies, lots,(lots of salad for me.)

    also no snacking between meals.

no eating after 8pm if you can help it.

Its not that hard and I kind of made it up as I went along but it really worked.

    June of '05 - 6'2'' and 380 lbs. Max Bench=205 Max Squat=285 Max Crunches= 50 and I would pass out !

    March of '06 - 6'2'' and 302 lbs (yes I still know I'm big but I've got 40'' shoulders)
    bench= 235, Squat= 400 , Crunches 200 !!!

I've still got a long way to go, but I'm there with you brother.

Oh and for anyone who don't believe me or think I'm full of crap, PM me and I will PM you my work number and you can ask anyone there.

I also want to say , I'm not trying to brag but I was just proud of my accomplishment that's all. 72 pounds is a LOT of WEIGHT. only drawback is none of my Class A uniforms fit anymore. That's ok though, i can live with it.

Oh and uh, It wouldn't hurt just to burn your local McDonald's down, I thought about it, myself. There's just something wrong about a burger that costs 1$ and has 30 grams of fat. Or a salad with 28 grams. That resturant probably kills more americans than crack cocaine.

I started doing Jenny Craig with my wife (she's been off and on it over the years). I have to say that it is expensive to do these types of diet things but for me (no kids and two good incomes) it was worth it because I have NO impulse control so it's nice to have food that's packaged in individual servings. For me, if I've got an open box I'm likely to sit and eat it all but with single servings I'm not likely to open two... I think it's kind of like I feel that my wife will notice if two or three dinners disappear where as a box of bulk food or chips you can eat almost gone then put back and unless she goes looking she wouldn't notice For me it's all about the guilt factor, I have my wife programmed to where she will continually be on my about snacking if she sees it. I also bought a weight bench (the simple kind with cables and weights that can do several basic things). I get spurts of energy at weird times and learned that if I have the bench and tread mill I may not feel like working out during the day but sometimes late a night I get the urge and go to it. The biggest thing that I've learned to do is snack better. I LOVE baby dill pickles, carrots and any steamed veggies so I always have some steamed Cauliflower or Broccoli or Brussel sprouts in the fridge so if I get the urge for munchy food I heat up some of them. This gives me food and because of the high water content I feel full after. Or I'll have a bowl of pickles, they are crunchy so I get that substantial snack level feeling but they are like 0fat and 5cal. per pickle so I can have a few of them without killing myself. I'm down about 36lbs so far (been doing it since just before the first of the year). I've kind of stalled the last week or two but am kicking it up again this week. I would love a magic pill and all but as much as I HATE...yes HATE, exercise and smaller portions I have to say that if you can hack it out for the first couple weeks it becomes more second nature. I keep my calories at a good level then if I need to have more food I make a big salad with yellow or red bell peppers cut up in it (they give it a little sweet taste) and no dressing or a little low fat dressing. Again, I love salads and veggies so it's easy for me to do this. The biggest thing is food control and keeping up the physical aspect. Just my uneducated opinion....
I am a Paladin, like the warriors of old, ready to stand on the line to keep others safe... A Sheep Dog, ready to protect the herd from advancing wolves!

I've lost 33lbs. so far since the beginning of January. No particular "diet" that I'm adhering to - just cut out high fructose corn syrup as much as possible, more whole grains, veggies, no soda, cut caffeine out finally, and exercising 5-6 a week (weights/cardio). My usual day consists of a Clif bar and juice for breakfast, protein bar for a snack, footlong Subway club with vinegar for lunch, some granola, Clif bar, chicken and broccoli for dinner, and a yogurt for dessert (Dannon Light N Fit - great stuff). Roughly 2,700-3,000 calories a day. Plenty of fluids.

I just started a diet/exercise program myself. I am looking to do 30 pounds but would be happy with 25.

My wife is 6 months with Weight Watchers and now back to her high school weight. Being on the road so much though I am not going to count points and eating out all the time makes it hard.

I just started a thing called the Fat Smash Diet. It is a 6 week program...first 9 days all vegatables/fruits (no white potatoes) with a few extras like eggs, yogurt, and a few others. After that they add in stuff up until the end. You slowly get back on meat and bad carbs a few weeks in. I am finding it very easy to do while on the road so much. A salad is easy, yogurts are easy, fruits is easy, etc... No problems. There is a book out there on it from some doctor.

But you need exercise + diet. And diets need to be a LIFESTYLE CHANGE. Crash diest don't give long term results. A diet shoudl be about nutrition and protion control. You shoudl be able to eat that peice of chocolate cake today. You just need to eat ONE pice and stop there and exercie the next day. You get the idea....work ona diet that teaches portion control and nutrition.

    MCSD,

First off, good luck with CPD, you'll be a future brother of mine.

Now, stop using supplements, they only damage your heart. You have youth on your side so losing weight should not be a problem. I’m a beast of a lad myself and had to lose some lb’s before I took the test in “04. I’m no expert, but the only way I saw results was hard work, no booze and eating clean. I set up a pretty aggressive routine and stuck with it. Just start running, don’t kill yourself, but run at a pace you are comfortable with. Remember to run every other day to avoid injury, on your off days do something fun. My wife and I recently took up Salsa dancing on Saturday nights, we also go ice skating and for walks in the neighborhood instead of going out and drinking and eating. About a year ago I got involved in boxing at a local gym, talk about cardio, I lost about 20 lb’s in under a month. Don’t starve yourself either, just eat clean. PM me if you want more info on my routine or boxing clubs in the area.
