Border Patrol vehicle apparently hit by train, injuring 2 agents
Two border patrol agents were in critical condition early Thursday morning after their truck was apparently hit by a train near Interstate 8 in the Gila Bend area, according to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.
Both agents were flown by air ambulance to a hospital, according to Aaron Douglas of the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.
A black Border Patrol SUV appeared to have been dragged along the tracks nearly a quarter of a mile.
The apparent collision occurred near Interstate 8 and Paloma Road, one mile east of milepost 105, Douglas said.
The border agents are believed to have been stationed in Yuma, Douglas said. A spokesman for the Yuma sector of Border Patrol said he was en route to the site of the collision.
