Police identify officer slain by gunman in NY - WSJ.com
Poughkeepsie Mayor John Tkazyik called Falcone "a great man and a great officer." He was 44, and worked as a patrolman.
Police Chief Ron Knapp said at a news conference that Falcone was among a group of officers who chased the shooter after he shot and killed his 28-year-old wife in a car.
Officers responding to reports of gunfire saw the shooter leaving the scene with a child in his arms, later identified as the couple's 3-year-old daughter. Falcone took the toddler away from the shooter and handed the child to a bystander before the final struggle. The gunman died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Officer Falcone had served with the Poughkeepsie Police Department for 18 years. He is survived by his parents.
