DPS Officer Found Dead At Scottsdale Resort
Unfortunately, this reads like a suicide. Too bad he didn't get the help he needed.
SCOTTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Arizona Department of Public Safety Officer Mark Serna was found dead at a Scottsdale Resort Tuesday afternoon, DPS said.
DPS Director Robert Halliday said he was found alone and there were no signs of foul play.
The investigation has been handed over to the Phoenix Police Department.
Serna was a nine-year veteran of DPS. He began his career at DPS as a patrolman in Casa Grande. He joined the Central Air Rescue Unit as a paramedic in 2003. There are several letters of appreciation in his personnel file.
Serna graduated from Mingus Union High School in Cottonwood, Ariz. He previously worked for the Cottonwood Fire Department and the Cottonwood Police Department before joining DPS in 2001.
Serna is survived by his parents and three children.
In a news release today, Halliday said, "It is with a heavy heart that I announce DPS has lost one of our sworn officers."

Of every one hundred men, ten should not even be here. Eighty are nothing but targets. Nine are real fighters, and we are lucky to have them, for they make the battle. Ah, but the One... One of them is a Warrior... He will bring the others back.
"Wrong door, buddy!"
Let no man's ghost say my training failed him.
