Danbury (CT) officer killed en route to midnight shift...

Officer Don Hassiak of the Danbury Police Department was killed by a hit-and-run driver on Thursday night while riding his bicycle to work for the midnight shift. He had been on the job in Danbury since 1994.

He leaves a wife and three young children. I believe the funeral is tomorrow in New Milford, where he and his family lived.

I'm so sorry to hear that. My condolences to his family and friends.

Even though Portland is a very bicycle friendly city, I would be hesitant to ride at night, especially at that time of night. We've had several officers injured riding bikes to work even on day shift. Put some drunks on the road and it can be really scary.

I hope they find the asswipe that hit him.

I just got back from the funeral. It broke my heart to see his three little kids up in the front of the church.

Very, very sad. RIP Don Hassiak.

This is Connecticut , Every officer is going all out.....the b........ will certainly be caught. Prison in Ct for crimes against PD.... (I've heard the inmates have to be in solitary eventually)
