Arlington PD Motorcycle Officer Laid to Rest

ARLINGTON, Texas - An Arlington motorcycle police officer was killed in a traffic accident with a school bus this morning.

The wreck happened at Cooper Street at Inwood Drive in Arlington around 7:15 a.m., just south of Arlington High School.

It's not yet known exactly how the accident happened. Video from Sky 4 showed damage to the side panel of the bus, but it's not clear if that's where the motorcycle collided.

Police investigators were working to determine who was at fault.

There were children on the bus, but it's not clear if they witnessed the accident. Grief counselors were called to talk with the students, who were taken to Arlington High School.

The Arlington PD public information officer said it's likely the children were a mix of grades and ages.

The officer's name and rank has not yet been released, as his family hasn't been notified.

The last time the Arlington Police Department lost an officer in the line of duty was 2001.

GRAND PRAIRIE — An Arlington police officer who was killed in the line of duty was laid to rest Tuesday afternoon.

Craig Story, 34, was killed while driving his police motorcycle last week. The motorcycle collided with a school bus as Story attempted to pull over a speeding driver.

A memorial service attended by hundreds of public safety officials from around the state took place at Crossroads Christian Church in Grand Prairie Tuesday morning.

More than 200 motorcycle officers from various municipalities throughout Texas followed the procession to the gravesite traveling northbound on Highway 360 from Grand Prairie to Moore Memorial Gardens in Arlington.

Four Arlington officers rode beside the hearse at each of its corners.

Out of respect, southbound traffic came to a halt as the procession drove along the highway.

Arlington police warned drivers to be aware of traffic delays along Highway 360 because of the funeral procession.
