N. St. Paul Officer Killed During Domestic Call
Devon Dockery
The North St. Paul Police Department is mourning after the first line of duty death in the city's history on Monday.
Officer Richard Crittenden, 57, was shot and killed around 8:30 a.m. while responding to a domestic dispute at the Aspen Village apartment complex in the 2200 block of Skillman Avenue East.
According to officials, a woman called authorities to report a man in violation of a protection order.
Crittenden, a nine-year veteran of the small 19-officer department, was sent to respond to the call. As is routine, he called for an assist and a Maplewood officer joined him.
The officers entered apartment number 101, on the first floor of the brick apartment building. As they tried to protect the woman from the man, shots rang out.
Officials say the Maplewood officer did discharge her weapon.
Both officers were shot. Crittenden died from his injuries. The Maplewood officer, who has not been named, was shot in the wrist. She was treated at Regions Hospital in St. Paul. The male suspect inside the apartment was also killed. A source tells 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS the man was Devon Dockery, 34.
During a news conference, police say they had been called to the residence at least two other times within the last few days.
FIRST POST:
At 0830 This Morning (Labor Day) two officers responded to a report of a violation of an OFP, as soon as they arrived on Scene they were shot at. One officer from the North St. Paul Police Department was pronounced dead at the scene, one officer from the Maplewood Police department was shot in the hand or wrist.
No names have been received at this time. Several media sources contradict eachother on minor details, i will edit this post with the full story when it becomes avalable. For now please pray for the Maplewood officer and the family and friends of the Fallen North St. Paul Policeman, as well as that department (it's a small department with less than 20 officers).

Yea though I walk through the valley of no radio reception, with backup in excess of 40 miles away I shall fear no evil, for I am a warrior, for whom the ranchers have an affinity, and they can take the head off a gopher at 200 yards.
