Tulare Deputy Shot and Killed
The Tulare County Sheriff's Department continues to mourn one of their own, after a deputy was shot and killed while on duty Monday.
According to officials from the Sheriff's Department, Kent Haws of Exeter, was gunned down after he pulled over a "suspicious man".
The shooting happened just after 1:30 p.m. in Tulare County near Ave. 344 and Rd 156. The area where the shooting occurred is about 2 miles from Ivanhoe, and 7 miles from Woodlake.
Haws had worked for the department for 10 years, after joining the force back in January of 1998. Haws was part of the forces's S.T.E.P. team; which is a special gang enforcement unit within the department. Haws leaves behind a wife and three children.
The Tulare County Sheriff's Department, along with the CHP and Woodlake Police worked alongside each other to investigate the devastating crime. "It's obviously a very sad day for us here at the Tulare County Sheriff's Dept," said Tulare County Sheriff Bill Whitman said.
Suspect In Custody
Police did make an arrest in the crime. 20-year-old Jorge Gomez Banda of Ivanhoe was arrested and booked into the Tulare County Sheriff's Main Jail Facility. Banda has been charged with homicide, without the possibility of bail.
