    Sad news

    Officer Jason Pratt Dies
    Died at 4:25 a.m.

Omaha police officer Jason "Tye" Pratt died early this morning at Creighton University Medical Center.

Officer Pratt died at 4:25 Friday morning according to a spokesman for the hospital.

Pratt had battled for his life for a week after suffering a gunshot wound to the head on the night of September 11th. The suspect who killed Pratt was shot to death by Omaha police.

Pratt had been listed in critical condition for a week. Doctors had fought to contain the swelling in his brain in an attempt to minimize secondary damage.

Omaha Police Captain Thomas Warren called Pratt a "true hero." Warren commands the northeast precinct where Jason Pratt was assigned. Captain Warren said Pratt made the ultimate sacrifice in serving his community.

Warren said Pratt was well-liked by his colleagues, was very popular and will be sorely missed.

Funeral services are likely to be Tuesday, September 23rd.

Omaha Mayor Mike Fahey asked citizens to lower the flags to half-staff in honor of Jason Pratt. He urged Omahans to line the motorcade route of the funeral procession to pay their respects and say good-bye to Officer Pratt.

Please keep our fallen brother in your thoughts and prayers.

I am so very sorry. There's just nothing you can say. But, I will pray for his family and friends to help them deal with the loss.

    Unhappy

Dang :( The Dr's at Creighton are the best too. Its too bad everything they did couldn't save him. My college roommate works there.
My thoughts will definately be with his family.

As sad and terrible as it is to say, it appears to be for the best. I was just told that he never would have been even 50%. Drs. apparently said that he was basically given a labotomy when the bullet hit him.

I think EVERYBODY from my dept. who is not working is going. We're going to have more than twice the cars there than we have on the road at any given time. Makes me proud to be a LEO.

Yesterday was truly amazing. The procession was approximately 3 times as long as expected. A five story parking garage was overflowing with Police cars. As we proceeded, I noticed a guy dressed in regular clothes, standing at rigid attention in full salute. He stood out because he was the only person in the area doing this. Everybody else waved, shouted thanks, etc. I learned from a co-worker, whose husband was standing behind this gentleman, that he stood there in full salute and did not waver, did not move from the time the herse first went by until the last cruiser went by.

Mutual Of Omaha must have let their entire staff out because people were curb to building deep for the entire length of their property. I'm guessing 6-8 blocks.

The only area where there wasn't any people was a bridge which was barely passable due to construction.

It was, and still is, very hard to think (and write ) about this and fight back tears. I was Ok at the cemetery until the end when they gave Stacy the flag and Jason's Purple Heart. Then they made Jason's final radio call (forgive me if I misquote), "Sergeant Jason Tye Pratt has answered his last call. May God have mercy on his soul." Shortly after this Omaha's three helicopter flew over and performed the "missing man" formation. I lost it.

I saw a lot of brothers and sisters yesterday. Some I knew better than others but that didn't matter, we were all family and we mouned the loss of one of our own.

I cry just imagining it. I don't like going to police funerals.
