The Contra Costa County Coroner has confirmed that a Pittsburg police officer has died of a gunshot wound.
The officer was found in an unmarked police car in front of 2124 Abbott Street. Neighbors say the car had been parked there for some time before other officers arrived and pulled the man out of the car. He was wearing a suit, not a uniform.
Residents of the street were ordered to leave their homes and stay at least a block away.
Initially it appeared that officers on the scene were looking for someone in the area, but it is unknown if there is a suspect. Neighbors say that plain-clothes police officers had been at that address on and off for about a week, because there had been a shooting there about a week ago.
An autopsy will be conducted Wednesday.
Zander's note
Officer Ray Giacomelli was a 23 veteran of the Pittburg Police Department. PPD is a department of around 80 officers located in the Delta region of the SF Bay (Northeast of San Francisco). He leaves behind a wife and two daughters.
The guy they are looking for, Earl Foster, is of course an ex-convict out on parole. Hopefully they are saving a needle for this scrote with his name on it at Quinten.
