Makes you wonder how in the 21st century they can have an unarmed law enforcement agency...
Blessed are the Peacemakers...
if the feds carry guns more criminals will.
Less Cops killed in UK than USA i bet....
First of all, I hate hearing of any officer dying in the line of duty. Secondly, there are WAY less cops in the UK than the US. Correct me if I am wrong but there are close to 37K in NY alone. How many are in the UK? The more there are the more chance there are to loose them. Just saying less get killed is not a good argument.Originally posted by help

What are you talking about?
Of course there are less killed in the UK that stands to reason, less people probably die in the UK of heart disease does that mean we look after ourselves any different?
No, its because we are a smaller country, we have a police population of around 135,000 which I woul hazard a guess to be slightly less that the US.

That line made me giggle LOL.
I will have a good thought for the officer and his family.

The best way to overcome a threat is with immediate and strong force. The use of force continium does not always include deadly force but an armed officer certainly has an edge over MOST aggressors.
It is like the US having a pile of nukes. We have them so the chance of actually USING them is slim.
Creeper Cop
The problem is - how would carrying a firearm have saved this brave officer? Sure theres a slim chance he could`ve shot the driver to save himself, but we all know that those shots are kept in Hollywood films. I don`t believe this is an argument for routine arming of UK police.

Bravery is not the absence of fear.
It is pursuing a goal despite fear.
We don't know much about the circumstances surrounding the interception.
We have quite the same situation in Montreal at this time.... A police officer was killed last year while attempting to arrest a car thieft that was on his way to commit an armed robbery....
The officer was armed and wearing a bullet proof vest .... I guess he was badluck ....
The accused is standing trial at the present time.
I notice that the BBC article is dated January 10th.... so I guess the crime did not recently occured...
Let us know the issue of the trial....
I also agree that every law enforcement agency should let their officers carry a weapon in the line of duty...
Never know who you gonna deal with out there..

Absolutely disgusting.
This has really incensed me, maybe if they catch the person responsible for setting light to the flowers someone might set his head on fire and I can put the fire out with a shovel !!!
Or am I being too cruel, answers on a postcard please.
A snout has told me he's got a set of nostrils, so go and get a W so we can spin his drum to see if he's got any monkey gear - The Sweeney.
