I remember when that locomotive was sitting and rusting in a park here in Portland. UP took it back, restored it and put it on tour for the country's bicentennial. It's worth going to see if you get the chance. The drive wheels are as tall as a man.
For whatever reason, they've changed the number, it started out as 4665, I see it's now 844. It was painted orange and black when it first started touring.Apparently, I'm supposed to be more angry about what Mitt Romney does with his money than what Barack & Michelle Obama do with mine

It's a jaw dropper. I would recommend taking your kids to see it if you can. It'll be a memory they'll never forget.

Virgina City has a steam and diesel train the run between it and Carson. They restored the tracks and do tourist rides between the rail museum and the famous gold and silver town. It's worth the trip....

The drive wheels were massive. Apparently that was how they improved speed was to increase wheel size. The best part though was the steam whistle. Originally Posted by icu650

It was pretty impressive rollong down the tracks. It came through here a few weeks ago.
