I was recently in NY to visit family and had the opportunity to visit the 9/11 Memorial.
I took a few pictures but pictures can not describe the feeling of being there. If a person goes there and is not moved they have lost their humanity.

I walk through there every day and I can tell you there is not a day I don't stop and pause. Most do not know that a view of the Freedom tower from the north and south will appear to eye as if the towers are still standing. From the east and west the perspective changes and you eyes will see the new building/shape.
Other than the museum being "private," I think they did a hell of a job. I still think The feds should have came in and took over the memorial sites at all three locations and make it a National site and keep it maintained. But the Pentagon did great with their memorial. I have never been to Shanksville and it is on the list so I am not sure what is going on there.

I wasn't aware that the architects created that illusion of the towers. I saw a special on NatGeo that talked about a lot of the things they considered while rebuilding ground zero but I don't remember if they talked about that one in particular.
When I decided to go to NY I found out that you needed a reservation. I looked online and the soonest I could get a reservation was Oct 17th but I wasn't going to be there that long. So if anyone plans on going make sure you reserve a spot.
One thing that did strike me as funny was a group from Japan that asked an officer to take a group picture for them. He gave the look of "How does this thing work" but pressed on and obliged the tourists. A few other tourists began eyeing him as if to say "Hey he'll take our pictures" when he noticed this he walked away pretty quickly. I asked that same Japanese group to take a group shot for me.

I can't say for sure. I was not involved ( and won't be) , we have way too many projects in a lot of states right now that I dont know the status of them.

I've been wanting to visit the 9/11 site for quite a while now to pay my respects.
