Not too mention most other people will be opting for the larger caliber 9mm, .357, .40, or .45. All are good weapons, but the .22 is just as effective up close and personal (where you'd use a pistol anyway). Also don't overlook a pellet gun. Once the grocery stores have all been raided and there's no more food, you can use the pellet gun to hunt small game and not draw the unwanted attention of the zombies.
But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object, evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new guards for their future security.

Good point with the pellet gun!

Do you think a high game fence built around a farm would keep the zombies out? They don't appear to be to smart to climb a fence or cut the wire!

Actually, the whole low-noise thing is another issue. Assuming that their hearin' parts haven't decayed to the point of being rendered totally inoperable, .22CB's are PERFECT for small game.

I LOVE .22's. Don't get me started on all the uses of .22's.

I can't be the only one who when bored contemplates what i'd do in a given location if zombies burst in, right?

Not to worry, the Zombie movement will fall apart at some point.
Apparently, I'm supposed to be more angry about what Mitt Romney does with his money than what Barack & Michelle Obama do with mine

The issue in CT though, is since our climate is fairly moderate to very cold... zombies won't decay for some time before being rendered totally immobile/non-functional.

Generally speaking though, Zombies won't want to stand outside when it's 20 degrees out... so they'll just move inside. The TeePee's they've constructed won't be warm enough either.

You're right a .22 doesn't make much noise, but a pellet gun can't get through the skull of a zombie while a .22 can. I don't think I'd want to use my primary defense weapon to get food if I didn't have to.

I figure you guys up north would have several months of zombie free living in the winter. Not too mention danger free zombie hunting once they are all frozen. What else are you going to do after all of the TV shows are off the air and you don't have any electric. If you can make it through the first year you should be golden. Go out and kill all the zombies you can find in the winter, and the next summer you only have to deal with a few stragglers and those from down south who manage to wander up there. The farther north you live the less likely you will see any zombies the second summer. I figure the zombie invasion will only last two maybe three years max. After that point most if not all of the zombies should be dead.
But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object, evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new guards for their future security.

Heck I've even figured out where I'd go and how I'd survive the first wave. I'm still working on a long term survival plan. Fortunately the wife and kid are both decent shots and can easily be taught tactics. The kid is already picking up squad tactics.

I was thinking (and bored) we have many houses here that are raised up off the ground 5, 10, 20 feet due to being in a flood zone. I think those would be perfect for living quarters during the zombie fighting. Just pull up two or three stairs on the steps and you have effectively made a moat. You could also have some fun and go to the bowling ally and grab a couple 16 lbs bowling balls. Drill a hole through it and attach a chain. That could be hours of fun for the whole family. Bowling for zombies.
