Spray will make cane toads croak!!! YAY!!!

Cane toads are a huge pest in Australia . . . . especially up north in Queensland.

A SMALL Canberra bio-tech company has developed a household aerosol that will kill cane toads in less than a minute.

''It's completely humane, there's no twitching, writhing, foaming at the mouth, turning blue or anything at all traumatic,'' the spray's inventor David Dall said.

''It's not toxic to people or family pets, and won't contaminate the garden with chemical residue. You spray the toads, they hop a bit slower, stop hopping and become unconscious. It kills them in their sleep.''

Dr Dall's company Pestat, developed the spray to help prevent family pets being killed by toads in suburban yards.

A CANE toad the size of a small dog has been nabbed in the middle of a "breeding frenzy" in Darwin.

The 861-gram (about 2 pounds) male is the biggest caught anywhere in the Northern Territory, according to environmental group Frogwatch. Measuring 20.5cm (8 inches) in length, the colossal male was one of 39 toads caught in a breeding frenzy, said FrogWatch co-ordinator Graeme Sawyer.

they are poisonousness & will easy kill a dog if they get the toad gunk in there eyes or mouth....they kill many other native animals & also breed by the 100's, & are very noisy, so if you like sleep or being able to walk outside without tripping over toads.......that is some of it..... ugh

I was reading where Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern had a special outback series which aired in the mid 2009 series. On one show they went into the Northern Territory with the "Cane Toad Elimination Group". This group collected cane frogs to eat their legs. Supposedly they cooked the legs with garlic and wine and then deep fried them. They were served with a chili sauce. I would not eat anything that guy shows on TV. Have you heard of this or tasted the legs?

I have eaten plenty of regular frogs legs and I love them. I will go out of my way to a restaurant that carries them. Cane frogs I think are poisonous and was surprised that this TV show demonstrated how to cook and eat them. I guess it is like that Japanese Puffer fish.

I have to admit, the first thing I thought when I saw that picture was GROSS!! But the second thing was My goodness what HUGE legs that thing has!! It would be like eating a chicken leg, especially since frog legs do pretty much taste like chicken.

As for it being poisonous, are they referring to the poison that can kill another animal such as in their mucus or venom or whatever it is? Or are they actually referring to the other animals that eat them getting sick because they are poisonous to eat. The Japanese puffer fish is basically poisonous, and it takes a very skilled sushi chef to cut it so that there is not too much poison in each piece to hurt you, but only give you the "zing" that it does. However, I would think that frying it (either the fish or the frog legs) would kill off any poison in the meat.

    Just my $.02
