She was going to make it a a double murder suicide but stopped after killing the kids. Why don't people just start with themselves first.

well it was definately premeditated if you was planning a murder/suicide and the fact that she had the gun in the car with her......it is scary how people just snap, I guess some people are born crazy while others thrive to achieve that goal... with the increased stress, the economic crunch you will see and hear more of these stories...this is JUST the beginning...:( parents killing kids , kids killing parents...." I" TRULY TRULY believe we are living in the book of revelation but that is just my personal thoughts , not to turn this thread into a religious debate b/c I know people have different views then myself

Yes, it would be much better if all these people planned a suicide / murder, thereby making the second half of the pact much more difficult to complete.

I must ask, if you believe it was premeditated, how could she have just snapped? Her crime shows evidence of prior planning, the opposite of just snapping in an instant. Just wondering.

I think it was Both only b/c.... "snapping" would equal waking up one day and saying I'm going to plan to kill my TEENAGE children. today ... you don't be a mother for 13 years and then decide to kill your kids, it was definately premeditated also.... :( just my thoughts though.

Hell, she wrote a note then chickened out. Writing a note left for authorities cannot even be remotely connected with snapping.

Husband returns early from hunting trip, has gun with him, walks in bedroom and finds his wife riding the baloney pony of another man. Guy "snaps" and shoots them both.

Husband returns early from hunting trip, gun is locked in trunk outside, sees wife riding baloney pony. Goes back outside, gets gun out of trunk, comes back in and shoots them both. No legal "snap."

Parents all over the world deal with teen agers and its by no means an easy job but to kill your kids for back talking? Isn't that in a teen's job discription?

are you suggesting people are possessed by evil? curious as to what you mean? you don't think that people have mental breakdowns? not saying this makes evil behavior acceptable.... just curious as to what you mean...

If being mouthy was a reason to get killed, I thing the majority of teenagers wouldn't have made it into adulthood. I don't see why she should bother with the double murder suicide...if you hate your kids and yourself, just kill yourself and let the kids continue living a normal life with their father.

more on my explanation on the "snapping" comment If anyone cares....

what i meant is I think everyone has a certain limit, sometimes there is truly a underlying pyschosis but sometimes people just go into a mental breakdown and do horrible things to themselves or those they are close too, my theory is why they choose their kids b/c kids are known for uncondictional love in their sick twisted minds they believe it truly is ok to do this b/c they will be "forgiven" ( Just a theory).....
Piggy, do you think people that attempt or commit suicide spend their whole picking the date of death or do you think they are pushed to do it........ I had a patient once that was a vegetable she was young in her early 30's she was a new patient to me so I had not read her history and physical I was thinking it was ( MVA). well I later learned she found out her husband was having an affair and attempted suicide, this was something that pushed her to "snap" or make a bad decision....that is a HUGE differance then killing your kids yes...but I believe in the human mind we each share common things goals, fears and we each have a breaking point. I believe pyschosis can be something we are born with and it can be triggered but it still does not make it acceptable...

Yep, that's my suggestion. I did a college paper on the topic. Came across some interesting stories. This lady below had no criminal record and no history of mental illness:

On February 19, 2001, Carol Sue Elvaker, who had apparently become obsessed with the Ouija board, was performing a board session with her daughter and her 10 and 15 year old granddaughters (Tammy’s daughters) when she declared that the board had told her that Brian Roach needed to die. She stabbed her son-in-law, Brian Roach, in the chest as he lay sleeping and attempted to kill her 10 year old granddaughter stating the board had told her they were both evil. Her daughter, Tammy, took the knife from her, hid it somewhere in the home and then they all left the residence. In a move that befuddles all senses, Carol Elvaker ended up at the steering wheel. After driving a number of miles from the home Carol Elvaker then intentionally drove the vehicle into a road sign attempting to kill every one in the vehicle. During the crash Carol suffered two broken ankles.

Carol then exited the vehicle, and with her two broken ankles, attempted to push her 15 year old granddaughter into oncoming traffic (thankfully unsuccessfully), stripped herself of all clothing, and ran buck naked, jumping a concrete median barrier and hiding in the woods. Law enforcement found her hiding in the woods, naked. After a psych evaluation the judge ruled Carol Elvaker not guilty by reason of insanity and ordered her to be institutionalized. AS FAR AS I CAN TELL (which is hampered by HIPAA restrictions) she is still institutionalized.
