Too much excercise can kill you

This guy over-excercised and it looks like it finally killed him. Worked out every single day of his life.

I want to live a lot longer than that so guess I'm going to have to be really careful and not exercise very often.

My family doctor told me the last time I was in that babies born today (in the USA) can expect to live about 130 years with medical advancements as they stand now.

What do you think it will be like in another 20-50-100 years?
This career is not a sprint, it is a marathon.

I would rather die healthy than look like a Treblinka survivor.

I have been running since 1978 ( before I went in the USAF) and I continue to do so. I also lift and play racquetball. I am amazed when I see people my age ( 50) who are inpathetic physical condition. If you choose to let yourself go , you probably will never be able to get yourself back. I enjoy DOING things actively and will continue to do so as long as I can.

I told my mother-in-law that when my knees give out from running , I,ll get new ones with an extended warranty and start over.

At 60, he swam from Alcatraz Island to Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco - handcuffed, shackled and towing a boat.
    LOL!

    That man was pretty awesome.

I remember going back home for a spell, after my first 4 years in service, and seeing folks from high school who I did NOT recognize due to the fact that they had gained like 30+ pounds of fat....in 4 years.

I agree with Mr. Lalanne completely on his view that:
"Inactivity is the killer and, remember, it's never too late."
    May he rest in peace.

Meh. I think the upper bound is fixed. Infant mortality has been stemmed but increasing life expectancy at the upper end hasn't happened.

In 1900, the life expectancy at birth in 1900 was 49 on average. In 2006 that jumped to 77.7. That's huge.

But if you look at how the elderly did, it's not nearly as dramatic.
If you lived to be 100 in 1900, you could expect another 1.58 years. If you were 100 in 2006, you could expect another 2.3 years. That's a 6 month improvement in 100 years at the extreme tail end of our lives so i don't think they will be making huge improvements to the top end without a radical breakthrough. There's a lot more people that make it to 100 now but they don't live much longer than the 100 year-olds from 1900.

I don't want to live to be 100.... this world is crazy enough now just let me see my kid get grown and healthy and live to be about 75... then I can retire...

Everybody says that. Until they get to the age they said they didn't want to live past and then that seems silly.

well ok then I hope I go first then I hate the idea of dying alone by myself... I guess that is kind of selfish though huh? AND....... I have to figure out what they will do with me I don't want to be cremated or buried... maybe stuck in a mosleum somewhere or a above ground tomb....the thought of being under the ground TERRIFIES me....
