I did not get lost out in the desert and end up in some dusty hole somewhere left to die of thirst 3 feet away from a dry well. I'm all settled in to a nice little apartment here in Arizona and making out fairly nicely.
I did end up rehoming one of my cats when one of my co-workers lost one of his. Dudley was much more sensitive and would not have done well cramped in the truck for 7 days with 2 dogs and his sister. I hear often of his updates and get pictures, so I'm happy.
Surrido had to be retired as a service dog after she got here. Big city life was simply too much for her. She was fine as a small town girl, but there were too many dogs, too many strange cars (my truck needs repairs I can't afford, so I have to take the state sponsored taxis), too much traffic, and she became too nervous for the job, so I found her a home 4 doors down. I see her almost every day!
Kane, the chocolate Lab simply stopped growing. She only topped out at about 50lbs. Not nearly enough to be a mobility dog for me.I was very sad as she was turning into a very nice dog. She now lives in Ahwatukee with a very nice couple that have a big back yard and another dog to keep her company. I also get to see her occasionally.
This left me with no service dog, so I was off to craigslist to look for one. I finally found an AWESOME Golden Retriever/Sneaky Neighborhood Dog (best guess is German Shepherd) puppy! She has the cutest little kinked tail only 6" long (natural), so now nobody can complain that my dog's happy tail is beating them to death. I got her spayed and her rabies for free (gotta love the wonderful programs available here in the PXH area!) and I'm now in touch with a group that will be helping me with her training when she reaches 1 year, also for free. Did I mention she's smart too? She's already crate trained (4-1/2 months now), knows sit, working on down, working on retrieval, and runs to the door when she wants out. Still not 100% housebroken, but we are getting there. Best part is her name... "Endless" for her wonderful tail!
