I don't get too bent out of shape over this stuff. There are far easier ways to find out where someone lives if you really wanted to. It's typical media causing panic.

Weird, I actually knew about this for a while (and the I Can Stalk U website--my COMS professor mentioned it for some obscure reason). Disabled it as soon as I got my smartphone.

Police can already do this on their own if they want to.
If the police need to collect evidence (with a warent) that's fine by me. If a company wants to do this without my knowledge that's an invasion of privacy.

I understand your point, but if you're privacy concious then those avenues don't exist. I dislike companies that compromise my privacy without my knowledge (the GPS tag shouldn't be on by default). In my case it would be a nusience. However, think of domestic violence (and simmilar) cases, for those people it could be downright dangerous.

Yeah, with far more effort and time involved. Being able to see the location from a photo could easily be the difference of saving someones life and finding them dead.

Thanks for posting this, I will pass it on to my sister that is CONSTANTLY taking pictures and uploading them to facebook but I also agree with greg all you need really is a name and you can get a address.

I have a GPS option on my phone, but it will pop up asking if it has permission to use the location, and I select no. I did just read the article on what Apple wants to do and wow...if they really manage to do that I am going to have to bail on my beloved phone because my phone being able to take pictures and record what I'm saying even if I'm not using the phone is just beyond creepy.
