    Married in Uniform

Studentcj, you asked a question about weddings and uniforms in the AAC section. I can answer from a military standpoint. Way back when I got married everyone was in uniform in my wedding (except me and the bridesmaids of course). My ex-husband had been Navy at the time, and we had each service represented among the groomsmen because my ex-husband and I had been working in the part of the Pentagon where all the services come together in what we called the "purple" environment -meaning AF, Army, Marine, Navy.

We had all paid a lot for those damn uniforms and wanted to put them to good use again (minus me). Furthermore, the dress uniforms for the Marines and Army are so much more gorgeous than a tux.

It also made for beautiful wedding pictures, which the family members loved. That was all another chapter of my life though

The Army officer's "mess dress" uniform was incredible. They had the tails and all. I didn't own one because they cost about 400 bucks even back in the 60's. That was nearly what I made a month as a lieutenant. Also, I didn't get invited to even military functions where that was required. I did have the dress blues that I think I wore maybe three times total. In the circles I ran with, I could usually get away with class A's.

The Army is going to Dress Blues as the official "Dress Uniform." All others are being phased or are phased out.

I still can't get used to seeing people in BDU's traveling on airplanes. We weren't even supposed to stop at a grocery store off base on our way home wearing the old fatigues......

I can't remember the last time I saw a soldier wearing anything else.

I still wear the old style woodland BDU's at work everyday... and we aren't allowed to stop anywhere wearing them off base unless it's to get gas or an emergency. I can only imagine what my chief or Div O would say if I got on a plane wearing them.....

I never understood it either honestly. I've seen soldiers at nightclubs or bars wearing BDUs. I wouldn't want to wear the same uniform that I might take somebodys life in out to the mall for a shopping spree.

You don't have the blue/black ones yet? I know the people over at the two Nav Stations around Schofield do. I see them at the food court and at BK all the time.

Same here. I fly civilian and keep my ID hidden and use a passport. That's just me though and I encourage everyone else to do the same when I am giving threat briefings or AT Level 1 Trainnig.

If you go to an official function or if it's a special occasion, one is suppoesd to be in at least Class B's. I usually wear my Dress Blues.

    Here's the new stuff.

C'mon, TSOC, the beret is magnificent. Love 'em. Army has the best ones. It's not silly. Berets are hot.

I don't like them either. They used to stand for something. The meaning was diluted when they gave them to everyone.

It's odd to me to even see Pentagon generals wearing BDU's when giving press conferences.

Yeah, it's a different time and threat now. Back when, you could fly half price on standby if you were in uniform. That's why I used to do it, especially when I was enlisted.

Hell, we had to wear Class A's when we flew back in the chartered freedom bird coming back from Vietnam. Of course upon landing at an AFB, we all headed for civilian airports to catch flights home.

    No more khaki, huh?

I have the new blue/black ones (NWU's) because I'm required to have them as they are a uniform item, but woodlands are an organizational uniform and the organization I'm at has always been woodlands.

A friend from college got married in his Marine Corp uniform. He had recently graduated from OCS. In my opinion, if you're going to get dressed up then why not dress in something that has some meaning behind it. Can't think of any suit of clothes that would have more meaning behind it then the uniform of the United States military.

I worked with a guy who's last name was Marshall. He said in the academy that he thought about applying with the USM's but he didn't want to be Marshal Marshall......
